Running thread

Biggest lull in my run career, no mojo, had so many big boozy nights out and loads planned still up to September - used to be fine mixing the two but now struggling. will walk the parkrun today.
You will get it back man. We've all had these lulls. I'm just coming out of one now. I would say don't put pressure on yourself; just focus on crossing the threshold and getting out for short, easy ones but with regularity.

As stu says mate, we all have these lulls, consistency is the answer, keep chipping away and it will come back.
I'm currently in a can't be arsed racing mode, just enjoying banging out my weekly mileage target, a race will pop up sooner or later but consistency is my main priority ATM.
Oh and knock that boozing shite on the head, it's not the fuckin 1990's anymore,

This morning's Alexandra Parkrun "Jeffed" in 32:10.
Far too humid to run the whole distance today, and a big queue at the finish funnel due to the number of participants.
Heaton Park, Peel & South Manchester all cancelled today so lack of overall capacity!
I went to Peel and realised it was not on due to Uni open day. Quick dash to Worsley Woods.

With a few others cancelled as you say, it was busy. The overnight rain made certain parts of the course backup due to volume of numbers.

32:53 was the official time.

It's the little wins, and one was had this morning when I ran into work for the first time, just over 6k.

There's no way that I'd have believed I'd have ever done that a few months ago when I started running!

Took all my stuff into the office yesterday so all I had to do today was run in, forgot arguably the most important thing though, a towel!!

I would love to run to work - good on you mate.

Unfortunately, I'm a sweaty bastard so it would be unfair to inflict this on the people around me. I know that some workplaces have showers which is great for encouraging healthy behaviours among staff.

I used to live and work in London. As part of my job, I had free access to the swimming pools in Westminster - and there was one almost next door to my place of work. I would cycle or run about 8 miles from Hackney / Haringey to Westminster then go for a swim & shower before work. I absolutely loved this routine and it was such a positive way to start the day.

You're right, it's such a good way to start the day, and just encourages you to a) have a good day b) make positive choices

I do agree with your opinion on getting out in the morning as it just sets you up nicely

I should have added into my previous post, that I did have a shower at work, just had to dry myself on a spare tshirt that I had lurking in my bag!

Whens your 40th? Will send you a reminder ;-)

I'm a few weeks off 6 years no booze. Much prefer it

Sept 01st

Before that I have a mates 40th this Saturday, work summer party next week, stereophonics Finsbury Park Friday after, Oasis gig at London and Manchester, Geneva work trip and other stuff. all will involve to much booze. Impossible to do all this and be on track for running, something will have to give.

Not sure if you're actually seeking advice or just wanting a rant.

But do seriously consider everything going on in your life, especially surrounding the social aspects, and the impact its having on other areas of your life.

There's so much more to life than drinking excessively, especially when it's perhaps not even something you're actually keen to be doing, and also having a negative impact on an aspect of your life that could be so positive (running!).

Either way, it sounds like you're at least talking about it/considering a change in lifestyle, but do give it some serious thought before you lose out on running which sounds like something you seem to really enjoy.

How are we getting on in the heat, lads? I made a little video on the topic recently. Top tip: get out early!

Also, I'm on the lookout for recommendations for shorts - especially for race day. Something comfortable with no inner lining. I need one or more zip pockets for my key, earbuds and a couple of gels. Bonus points if they look good and/or make me as fast as Kipchoge.
