Running thread

Turned 60 earlier in the year and I am loving it. Stopped during COVID due to injury and then forgot about it. Started running a little in February now three 10k a runs a week. Don't want to injure myself so running for times is out. 10k in around 55 mins is good for me now. More walking as well.

That’s a bloody brilliant time for 10k!

Morden again for me. 34 mins dead, was aiming for under 34 but let a kid and his mum finish in from of me. She also had 34 dead. Conditions lot better than last few weeks/months, nice breeze blowing across the course. Been struggling with my anxiety all week and even today almost turned for home on way there. I knew I wanted to do it, knew it would do me good and to start it the way I felt was a bigger achievement than finishing it.
Sorry to hear about your anxiety issues ob. My ex girlfriend really struggled mentally. She made the mistake of turning to alcohol to deal with it. She has never got off it and is lucky to still be alive tbh. Running is by far the best thing to do if anyone is struggling mentally. You need a focus in life that isn’t going to drag you into the abyss. Anything that gets you out and about amongst others has got to help.

Sounds like the time was irrelevant mate, well done for making a great decision which hopefully set you up for a nice day

Sorry to read that mate, been there re drugs and alcohol about 30 years ago. Almost lost my job, my flat etc, was really at rock bottom but pulled myself out of it through help of friends and family. Still enjoy a beer but no 4 days non stop. Couple of pints on Friday is about it these days. I still do struggle to go meet people some days and would rather sit at home. Missed football, gigs etc because of this

Out and about this morning before the downpour

Managed 15k in 1hr 32mins

Passed some people that were coming towards the end of the Bullock Smithy hike; just for context, i recognised some of them from my walk around lyme park yesterday lunchtime! 55 mile hike/trail run which apparently can take the best part of 24 hours!

Just short of 18k this morning for me, after a brutal club relay yesterday.

Great morning for running, not so great now.

My mate managed this in just under 13 hours yesterday, winner did it in 9, ridiculous!

Yes I saw the time of the winner, which is incredible given the terrain etc

Fair play to your mate for finishing 4th, at least he'd have got home for a nights sleep!

Alty completed in 48:40, didn’t go to plan as went off a little too quick and paid the price later.

Also needed to stop for a piss which is becoming a regular feature and is really getting me down. Need to stop letting this happen as it’s costing me time each race.

Funny you should mention pissing. I'm fine while I'm running, but during the 2 hour period after any run, I need to piss every 5 - 10 minutes. Whilst I drink a small bottle of chilled tap water while I run, I'm sure the majority gets sweated out.
I can only imagine my regular urination is down to my body trying to rid itself of lactic acid? I have the same issue after I swim, although I do inadvertently swallow a lot of pool water!

Think he was 15th, the website for tracking is pretty crap.

Fair play to anyone taking it on, and going through the whole night, running in the dark over hills and trails with just a head torch sounds a bit mad to me!

It’s literally at the start. Must be nerves or something, I’ll go just before the event begins, set off and can guarantee in the first mile I’ll need to go again, can’t shake off the feeling so inevitably I’ll stop which throws my whole race plan out of the window.

Think everyone gets that need for a piss at the start mate, hence the huge queues and stealth bush pissing, I used to suffer with it a lot during races but found limiting water/fluid intake beforehand seems to do the trick.
My worst moment for stopping for a piss was my mara PB of 3hrs and 14 seconds, I stopped for a piss at mile 22 and my legs just wouldn't work after that, fucked my sub3 reckon I would have done 2.58ish if it wasn't for that piss stop

Well done mate

Six months off the beer is ace mate, especially through the summer, I'm down to 11 days off it after falling off the wagon over the summer like a dick head!!
The boozing and running just don't mix for me, your miles better off without it
I'm on the edge atm do I stick at it or have a few when I go Porto in October. I'm swaying to sticking off the drink, sounds boring but best I've felt and I know soon as I'm back on the sauce my motivation sways, I get back into a bad routine haha.
I've had a few non alcoholic drinks which aint been bad when I've been out or at the match just to see the taste but been happy enough with the soft drinks so far.
