Prostate cancer

Hi, not updated you all for a while. I am documenting my journey https://stevepriest.me.uk/i-still-have-cancer/ please give it a read.
I am on a doubling PSA rate of about 15 months which shouldn’t be too worrying. I had an MRI on Friday and, assuming it is still localised I think I’m going to have the radical prostatectomy. Obviously nervous about it but the way my brother neglected aspects of his health because of some fatalist bullshit notion that you have no control pissed me off so much that I am going to do anything that gets this sorted so I’m not going to be some burden to my family. I mean I’m probably going to burden them in some way but not with something as preventable as this.
I’ll let you know how things transpire.
good luck mate hope all goes well

So finally after many months of appointments and Check ups I on Thursday got diagnosed with prostate cancer , this might sound a bit mad but I’m now finally relieved that it’s now done it’s taken a while to get this all sorted and I know I got back to the Jack grealish thread when I mentioned this . Unfortunately for someone of my age (53) on Wednesday it’s an aggressive form but I’m under stepping hill and Christie’s now so I’m in good hands. If anyone has any experience of this it’d be nice if it’s shared either on here or a pm. I’m ok even though I always had a bad feeling of the final diagnosis it’s a shock that the Gleeson score was quite aggressive I’ll fight this all the bloody way . I’m grateful I’ve got great family and friends around me , please don’t take this as a sympathy post more of any advice and experience in this is always welcome.
So there it is I’m type of bloke whose pretty open with things and this on here will help .
Finally please anyone of you who’s getting towards the age of 50 please, please have a mot at your doctors/GP . Do not ignore this prostate cancer IS the silent assassin.
Take care all you and up blues.
Good luck my friend. I'm sure you'll smash it pal. We'll be doing that hike soon as you're better pal. X
Edit.
Just realised this is your message from 2022.. I feel a bit silly, but very happy too. I thought it was a recent message because my thread went back for some reason. Hope you're well mucker. :)

Had my latest check-up with my specialist, Dr Logue, this morning. Just a chat really but all is good. I was a little concerned that my haemoglobin was dropping with every reading: 150-ish in January, then 131, 129 and now 120, but he says that this is perfectly normal with the two treatments that I am on.

The main thing is that my PSA reading remains undetectable.

Just another excuse to say: get yourself checked - chances are you'll get the all clear but if not then the sooner PC is detected, the easier the treatment and the better the outcome.

Pleased to hear that. I too had concerns months after my treatment as there was a bounce back with my PSA reading six months after my treatment finished. My latest PSA score has now reduced and I now have a check up every six months. I think that once you have been diagnosed with PC it will be forever on your mind that things may go amiss again.
I also have been lucky enough to have Dr Logue as my oncologist and I couldn't wish for anyone better. He has given me total reassurance.
As RobMCFC has said if you can get yourself checked.

I have read that about the PSA on here (maybe in one of your comments) or maybe elsewhere. But even without any detailed medical explanation, it should be obvious why that will happen: testosterone held at bay for two years and then let out of the cage!

I'll be asking Dr Logue "what happens next?" sometime next year, but that can wait for now.

I now know for a fact that that's at least three of us on here treated by the same guy. I believe he pioneered this treatment so you'd probably be hard-pushed to find a better guy in the world to be treated by.

I told him that he was highly regarded on Blue Moon. His response: "I hope your season improves." :)

Had the Hifu treatment Monday. Surgeon very happy with the procedure. A week of piss bags. Day is 500ml and the night 2000ml. The bag comes off Monday and MRI in the afternoon. If all clear another one in a years time. Who knew I was full of piss. Let's hope the real City turn up this weekend.

Just been given the news that my last cat scan revealed no cancer. The immunotherapy has done the trick. 4 monthly checks for a year. No more treatment. In observation it's called now rather than remission.

Very happy!
After everything that you have been through that is amazing news. Congratulations.

Quick update, I had my Brachytherapy procedure at The Christie last Friday.I have to say all the staff there were marvellous and we are lucky to have such a renowned hospital in Manchester.

I’m just taking things easy for the next couple of weeks and then hopefully back to playing old man’s football.

Unfortunately my brother who lives in Spain has had an large increase in his PSA levels in the last 12 months and a scan has revealed a PI RADS grade 4 lesion so he’s about to have a biopsy in the next week.
Again he had no symptoms, so get checked out if you haven’t already done so.

I went to see Mr Jaffer (anyone had him as their surgeon??) last week and decided that I was a good candidate for prostatectomy given my increasing PSA, age, fitness and localisation of the cancer. I feel very positive about the decision but a little apprehensive about what comes next in life.
I will have a life left to come though so I'll deal with it.
Should get a date in 6 weeks or so.

Somehow missed this. Given where you were that's just truly fantastic news.
