Thought same on the long jump as well, looked like it had more bounce. Which probably threw off the rhythm of the pole vaulters a bit.
Quite possibly. Remember last year at the meeting at one of the Italian cities. I can’t remember if it was Rome or possibly Turin. The run up to the long jump and triple jump was very springy and Edward’s record was in jeopardy. I recall thinking, I for one was hoping it wasn’t going to be broken on that night with the help of the run up track.

Yeah not sure it's right really. There are warm up tracks to practice bounding and such indoors, I've been on one at SportCity and they make a huge difference.

Yep. I also wonder if that raised surface is a lot springier than what they normally jump off? Some very good performances across the board.
They shouldn’t really mess about with take off areas. Or the whole run up really; should be the same as the main track.

Morgan Lake has been pushing really close to 2m this year but feels a bit wrong she finally gets it on a track / area that will absolutely call into question its validity.

I really cannot get my head round how a country like India who has no athletic pedigree can produce a javelin thrower like that

1.3bn people is a BIG pool.
Talent, hard-work, money, US collegiate system.
That would be my guess though not specifically about this athlete.
The private school system in India offers a lot of opportunity.

I really cannot get my head round how an Island like GB who has a decent
athletics pedigree can’t produce hardly any field events athletes since the days of the 80’s.

I've just looked it up and apparently

So true. The commentary when focussed on Backley, Daley, Capes etc always used to say 'this will inspire etc'. I wonder what went wrong

You need facilities for practicing field events, but you can run anywhere.
We’ve had a few in recent times: pentathlon, men’s long jump, ladies pole vault, but not nearly enough. No heavy throwers.
However, middle distance is my fave and British women currently excelling.

But is there not more facilities available now than there was when the above names were in their heyday?
My theory is they have it too easy now, kids nowadays try a different sport every two minutes and fuelled by their pampering parents go through about 20 different sports, trying them two or three times before giving up and going back to their playstation/phone

He just seems arrogant, not shaking hands with the other runners at the end and shit like that,
Didn't have time to give kids autographs at the UK championships in Manchester last year, when other athletes went out of their way to do so, comes across as a bit of a twat.

As an aside my sister and brother in law went over to Zurich for the meeting and saw Max Burgin at the airport (probably on the same flight back to Manchester) and went over for a chat, said he was a really nice lad and they chatted with him for ages. His dad is his coach, yet could only afford to fly in for 24 hours, and can't afford to go to Tokyo but will try and get there if Max makes the final. Just shows the sacrifice some families make. I'll be honest I'm desperately hoping the kid can get a medal now.

Tom Evans about to win UTMB with Josh Wade looking good for third - amazing!!!
Finish live on YouTube if you’re quick

I see GB is sending a team of 64 to the World Championships, details haven't been released about the Novuna sponsorship but it must be pretty significant as without it I think the team would be much smaller, as GB teams seem to have been shrinking due to the finances in recent years.

Race walk/they're definitely running kick-starts the championship tonight.

It's going to be a catch up in the morning job for most days.
