Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

No, but it's certainly a government tool.

Did anyone notice there were 7 by-elections taking place on Thursday? No, neither did I. And neither did I notice since the BBC makes no mention of it. Strange that. Especially considering Reform came within a whisker of winning all 7 seats, in fact taking 6 and narrowly missing out of the 7th.

Newsworthy, you would have thought? But the BBC don't think so. Apparently.

well I did know all that mostly coz I tend to follow politics - I suspect the Clacton House, Russian Spy and payments from Russia to Reform seems to have cooled the BBC's Reform love in at the moment because I'd have expected them to get Farage on for a comment about their wins - maybe he is in hiding for now?

Since when were council by-elections with low turnout national news?

I recently filled in a BBC survey on their performance, and have just be sent a link to the results. Much of it is the usual platitudes, however there were some interesting points as follows:

In response to "What the Beeb should stand for"

So lets get this straight, 3% of respondents don't think the truth is important? A better result than in MAGA land no doubt but still quite shocking.

Which broadly reflects opinion on here I would think? It's good to see that independence from Government is what the population wants and expects, not so good that they appear to be failing badly in this.

Wonder if this will make any difference? The cynic (who is strong in me) suspects not

Independent from, not only govt, but also from any other external influence (ie. friendly, familial or business interests of those high up in the BBC structure or those who relay information on their programmes).

I don’t particularly feel like the BBC hold any particular bias as a trend. That both the left and the right think the BBC do hold bias against them shows that. However, I can see why the left and the right think that because, rather than being neutral, I think the BBC try to be balanced by positively and negatively platforming both left and right.

Truth should be a given from the BBC.

The BBC should be quite a boring organisation as they aren’t there for sensationalism or speculation and, in my opinion, shouldn’t be there for opinion (if I want opinion I’d go elsewhere, just give me the facts). They might be late in reporting something compared to other outlets due to waiting until something is confirmed as truth, but should be there to be reliable with the truth.

…oh, and give us less American News!

I don’t care about what goes on in America. The only time I want to hear about America is when News about their Foreign Policy might be of interest to Britain. Other than that, I don’t care, stop telling us about shit that goes on there, on the BBC. Or create a channel - ‘BBC America’ - and shove it all on there for those who care about it and leave the normal BBC to be the ‘British’ Broadcasting Corporation.

Trumps fascist power grab, illegal arrests from ICE agents etc should concern us all and will have implications for the world.

I don’t give a shit about any of it. And what we get fed most of the time is far less important than even any of that stuff.

The BBC is partly a ‘What Donald Trump Said Today’ organisation, notifying us of the inane shit that he says half the time. And other stuff they show us is ridiculous: Trump’s going to build a dining hall on the White House grounds was a news story a few weeks ago, some bloke who got shot’s wife walked out on a stage at a stadium was one of the major headlines a few weeks ago, going back to those daily updates we got on the Johnny Depp and Herd court case… it’s a constant stream of uninteresting useless bollocks from some other country.

One of the stories away from Trump at the moment is who’s in the New York mayoral race… who gives a shit?!

Me and millions of others who worry about democratic values and freedom of speech -what happens in America usually has implications for us - the rise of Reform and Tommy Robinson being funded by Musk is a big part of the MAGA movement - small stories may seem irrelevant- much like Jimmy Kimmel being suspended, but there’s a dark bigger picture at play and we would be foolish to turn a blind eye to events in America under Trump.

I did the same and wasn't surprised at the results.
