Gas & Electricity

My dd has gone down from £65 a few months ago to £40 , i changed to ovo fixed for one year and have been really pleased with then , never once did edf lower my dd , just put it up all the time
EDF are always putting my DD up (it's automated I think), I simply log in and ask them to put it back to what it was. Strangely I'm always in credit by a smallish amount? I'm still waiting for them to fit a new gas smart meter after the original had a leak outside 12/18 months back and BG fitted a new dumb meter. I supply online gas readings monthly as their estimates are always more than we use.

Aren’t they supposed to do that replacement in a certain time frame now I left them because they were fucking useless went with octopus within two weeks they’d fixed it

I can refer you for Fuse Energy if you want, standing charge for me is 0.28p and 0.056p unit rate. You get a free spin to win £25 to £150 in credit too. Only pay for what you use too which I prefer. Depending on your area might be cheaper than my tariff.
Cheers for offer I’m on octopus intelligent for my EV and tbh their customer service is great, I just think the standard charge should be binned

Wasn't aware of that TBH, I don't mind putting the readings in, it's simple enough. I'll have to dig out the emails I've sent previously and give a dig again.

Edit: Checked and the old smart meter was removed in July 2024, 14 months ago, my contract is up in November so may be time to jump ship when I check the comparison sites.

We nearly left EDF last year. Our (smet1) Smart meter only worked for about a month (years ago).
I wanted to know more about what used energy the most so i was constantly at them to fix it. They lied time after time with different reasons it didn't work. An actual EDF meter tech on a different job told me what was really going on.
Apparently EDF changed software about the time of our failure. Around 40,000 customers got cut off from the system, and the only fix was to "manually" add them back. So the meter was doing it's job to the data centre, but not talking to EDF properly. EDF deemed this too expensive.

Well after years of trying, i gave notice of leaving, rather than just let the new supplier inform them etc. I wasn't too bothered as Octopus seemed a better option. Within 24 hours, my smart meter suddenly started working. Then i got an email saying we were entitled to a brand new gas and electric meter and they were coming in two weeks to install them!
Octopus then got back and said our current (smet1) smart meter wouldn't work on their network, and they couldn't guarantee they would install a new one. We wanted Octopus for there EV tariff which needed a working smart meter.

As it happens, EDF do offer an EV tariff that for us is actually cheaper than Octopus. EDF are 8.9p kwh versus Octopus 7.9p kwh. EDF peak is 24.9 kwh and Octopus 28.9. Since we use more peak electric, EDF is cheaper.

EDF also do this "Sunday Saver" thing. If you can reduce your peak use and shift it to off peak, you get free electric all day (8-4) on Sunday. We don't do anything different, yet this Sunday is free again. That's the car charged to 100%, the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, and the Sunday roast all going on then!

We moved to Octopus about 4 years ago after Scottish Power couldn't reolve a metering issue. It was sorted within a couple of weeks. We've had no issues with Octopus since joining them.

A friend just recommended fuse to me. I’ve got the switch to happen tomorrow. Quite a bit cheaper than the So Energy plan I was on.

I’ve been averaging £90 a month and we aren’t even in winter yet which is concerning.

I’m out most days and the missus work from home but still. Gas boiler and hob can’t use that much surely

I joined on the 8th of this month, currently used £4.39 including standing charge, I can't be putting the heating on in September!

£4?!

My smart meter is telling me about £16 a week average for gas and elec. Not entirely sure if that’s including standing charge.

That is for Gas only, I have my electric with Tomato Energy they're pretty cheap too average like 0.18p a KWH with them but OFCOM have banned them from taking on new customers for now haha.

They're finally fitting a new Smart Gas meter on Tuesday (only took them 15 months) and today I get my "your 2 year fix is coming to an end" email, coincidence? Probably not.

I'll wait until it's fitted and working before looking seriously at options, preferably a long term one as I couldn't be arsed doing this every year.

From a quick look, uswitch reckon my current monthly cost is £188.68 which is odd as I'm paying £138.53 and I'm still £268 in credit? The MSE Energy Club doesn't list my current tariff so I picked the nearest equivalent and it's slightly less than the uswitch estimate but still way over.

EDFs suggestion is a Simply Fixed 2Yr Oct27v2 option which is slightly cheaper than I'm on (although the usage again is over what we use).

The uswitch E.ON 1 year deal is showing as £177, an E.ON 2 year deal is at £184 (around the same as the 2 year EDF offer).

Anyone up to date on the 2 year forecast, or is it still up in the air?

Having dealt with a few of the companies over the years(including taking Scottish Power to OFGEM and getting £800 compo), I would definitely recommend Octopus. We 've been with them about 3 years and they are genuinly very helpful if things are not quite right.

Looking at Cornwall Insight, the company that usually does the most accurate predictions on prices, there doesn't appear to be too much movement either way in the next 12 months. But how long is a pice of string?

To my everlasting surprise they actually turned up and fitted the smart meter as they promised. They did take the litle touch screen so I guess I'll have to carry on using the app or website. The council have not long put a new boiler in and replaced all of the radiators so hopefully that'll help this winter. The old one was 15 years old as was the electric shower (now replaced), which we found out when the new boiler broke it :( due to the water being turned on and off. They even came back to renew the wet room floor, so we can't complain about our local council.

I've stuck with the EDF 2 year fixed deal as there's little chance of it being over the cap for the next couple of years. I'd already applied for the warm home discount so it makes sure that doesn't get lost somewhere, plus they added £20 for renewing online. The new deal will only kick in start of December so that's us sorted for awhile. Thankfully, the broadband has still got 8 months to run so I can relax for awhile.

It looks like Tomato have gone squashed. Been on the cards for while.

Yeah been a slow death, I think they took on too many customers too quickly and couldn't cope. Luckily just paid last months bill so only have this months. Been a good year though 0.18pkwh on average, wonder what happens to the ones with the solar and battery tariff!
