Metrolink to / from Etihad

Is there such a thing with any ground that is easy to leave no matter what transport you use.
No, some are better than others though. I'll repeat what's been said already. People want to walk, fine. Some can't and others don't want to, that's the way it is. A few more trams to and from the ground at a decent frequency is all people are asking for.

And more buses more frequently especially night games and Sunday games…… and freezing or pissing down games

Let’s be honest the public trains and trams are not really great, they are as mentioned, way behind London.
I live 13 miles away and for midweek games, I often have to leave at 17:30/45 due to poor public transport and heavy traffic.
Sometimes there are no trains back ( accepted after extra time).
The trains are rammed and often cancelled,or delayed. You want me out of my car,you need to provide a service which is fit for purpose.
It’s isn’t City’s fault, or their business to put it right, it comes down to the council who put in place residents parking around an industrial estate and cemetery .

Have to say thought yesterday was spot on.
Was back at East Didsbury at 5.35 just leaving after the 10th goal was scored.

To the game from town, yes. After the game, walk back into town to catch tram home from Pic/Market St/ Shudehill.
Its straightforward , and I get some fans have longer journeys.

As an away fan , getting away from Anfield/ Goodison/ United/ Spurs /Leeds/West Ham etc etc. has never been easy, its not just an Etihad issue. I was in Liverpool last week with an Evertonian mate, who who took me to the Hill Dickenson on a non match day. Its further out from Lime St than City is from Piccadilly. about a 40+ minute work. The nearest small Merseyrail station, Sandhills, is about a mile from the from the new ground and has similar long queues after the game. Should be fun.
Anfield is diabolical for transport. Shockingly bad in fact. Just bandit taxi drivers and a few buses for home fans. West Ham is very easy if you use Hackney Wick overground. United is pretty easy as well in my view. Not sure yet on the new Everton but there are some decent pubs in the bottom end of Dale Street area. Which is not as far as from Lime Street. We will see how it goes.

I was hanging around Deansgate tram stop for about 15 minutes before the game yesterday, waiting for someone and it hit home, something we all know anyway. But how totally reliant they are on there being no issues on that little stretch of line between St. Peters and Cornbrook.

I don’t think more than about 30 seconds passed the whole time I was there without a tram dropping in and another being in sight, waiting to follow it.

Pretty much every tram on the whole network is using that stretch. I’ve no genius suggestions. It’s too late to start from scratch now. But it’s a recipe for disaster. One tram breaks down on that stretch. Or an electrical problem and the whole job is fucked.

After the game tram back to Piccadilly Station, a 4 minute wait for an Altrincham empty double tram. Amazingly hardly anybody got on it and we all got seats, an absolute joy for once in a Blue Moon.
It happens like that every now and again. I've given up getting the tram home to Altrincham. I catch the bus and it saves me half an hour on a normal trip, more if there is an unknown but not infrequent fuck up.

This was illustrated earlier in the season when Cornbrook had works on. The whole southern side of the network was affected for a weekend. It is a pinch point on the network and would take a fair amount of work to alleviate it.

A line up the middle of Princess Parkway to meet up with the East Didsbury line might help. It could then be extended to provide a second line to the airport.

What time was that? Me and my lad stayed in the ground till about ten mins after the end. The queue to get to the trams was massive. We decided to walk along the icy canal back to Picadilly.

My wife and I had just got to the exit for Block 211 when our 10th went in. Walked to the tram stop and were held just beyond the pay kiosks for about 5 minutes then through the sheep pens and down to a Media City tram. Got of at Piccadilly station and a 4 minute wait for an empty double unit heaading to Altrincham.

Got home in time to see Rogers score Villa's second at Spurs, so about 6.20pm.

I did park and ride to Ashton for the first time this week, never doing that again took an hour to get back to Ashton after the game
For those going to Ashton, an alternative is, if you can, walk to Ashton Old Road, and get a bus from there. The 216s which are not allowed Ashton New Road immediatly after the game go that way also.

I’m sure it’s something they’ve considered and dismissed for reasons beyond my understanding. But, even though it wouldn’t suit me personally you’d maybe think having Bury- Ashton would make sense? At least that way you’re got one line not reliant on going through Cornbrook.

It's most likely cost. The planned and unplanned disruption on this stretch cannot justify the cost of providing a bit of redundancy in the system.
