Great response mate, and I agree with the thrust of what you said, especially the last part!
My working life brings me into contact with a huge range of people including many Oxbridge types and others with little or no formal education and I often find people in the second cohort who I consider to be smarter than those in the first, so I fully accept that intelligence can be measured in lots of different ways, and I certainly don’t base it simply one metric, most especially academic qualifications. You have alluded to this in your post, and I completely agree.
However the only way I can evaluate Delaney is based on what I see and hear through the prism of his profession, and I would say, subjectively, and (tbf) in relative terms to his calling (which makes it a qualified assertion) I’d still say he was stupid. This again aligns with what you’ve posted :-)
So I’ll recalibrate my assessment: he’s relatively stupid.
