Even by the standards of professional athletes hockey players are idiots, but that is fucking embarrassing for everyone involved and goes a long way to dispelling all the good will and momentum they just generated for American hockey.

At least your women's team have shown a bit more intelligence and dignity that those weapons.

Witkoff and Kushner are treating the talks with Iran and Ukraine as business meetings over geo political stability.

I've seen this play in my times as a union rep.

Go into dispute. Rather than clear the the diary. Have a meeting that lasts an hour in a posh hotel. Deliberately double bank it with "urgent business" after. Agree nothing. Move to another meeting.

Make outrageous demand to test us under the guise of "business confidentiality". We refuse. Comms go out saying 'we tried to offer a sensible solution that your reps rejected it. Gagging us from saying what it was so we get the shit.

Radio silence. We declare action.

Meeting called to prevent action. This time it will be held in an office that's either too small or they'll be issue like 'air con/heating failure'.

We demand another room. They refuse. We walk away. They declare we walked away to justify what they want to impose us on us. Starting a 'war'.

They'll pump money into breaking the impasse without negotiation. We hold the line. It's gets to a point where it's costing more to sustain the action than make a deal, so we're called back in. A resolution is sorted that none of us are happy about. Apart from the one manager getting a big fuck off bung as a thank you.

Classic business dirty tricks.

They work more often than not because people fail to engage in the process and just end up getting fucked over, then complaining about it when it's too late.

Buffalo is freezing cold, regularly gets heavy snow, and is a pretty rough town. So in the circumstances I don't think it's unfair to expect paid public servants to do a little better than dropping the guy off at a coffee shop and telling him fare thee well.
