Feel sorry for anyone at the top of the new 3rd tire. the steps are huge.
the the worst part of getting to the the roof, so a mate says
I'm happy for a bit of a climb when my new seat is costing me 500 quid less than this season mate! I remember a couple of years back at St James' an old fella had a heart attack once he had climbed all the stairs, never did find out if he was ok!

Just posted the above and copied and pasted one of the image codes and the image suddenly appeared but I still cannot see any images on the previous pages. Can anyone please advise? Thanks in advance.

STOP PRESS. I've just read the previous posts and have found the reason why it's happening. I should have just read the previous posts like I normally do but thought "S**t! No pictures!! PANIC!!!!" when I couldn't view the excellent pictures by JRB and the rest of Bluemoon's contributors.

Phew!!!!

Excellent photos as per usual JRB!! It's going to be a long summer/winter isn't it without interior photos of the stadium?

We should all pitch in for you to go on a tour...

Does anyone know the official reason why -"Magic Weekend" has moved to St. James Park , Newcastle.?.

Maybe our "building work" ?.

yes purely the building work, too much to do before Laing O'Rourke hand the stand over to City and the world cup to prepare for

Etihad extension reaches key milestone 29 May 2015,

The huge crane helping to create the new south stand at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City FC is due to be dismantled this weekend as the pressure mounts to complete work in time for the new season. The Italian-built crane was acquired by Laing O’Rourke in 2014 and is said by the contractor to be the biggest crane of its type in Europe and twice the size of the biggest in the UK, capable of lifting 20 tonnes 70 metres from the tower, or 60 tonnes when the end of the jib is only 10 metres from the tower. The crane, and two smaller ones, have been used to lift off the old roof from the south stand and install the new roof, along with support structures outside the ground at the same time as a third tier of seating. The new roof uses harder materials than its predecessor – which softened acoustics as it dated from the Commonwealth Games where hearing the announcers was a priority. The harder material should increase the volume and add to the football crowd’s roar. The £50m contract includes adding three rows of seats around the pitchside, where the ground level has been tapered down to create extra room behind the advertising hoardings. The new capacity including the additional 6,000 seats in the south stand and 1,500 around the pitch will take total capacity to just over 55000. The groundsmen require six weeks and two days to grow the new grass on the pitch ready for the start of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season. This leaves Laing O’Rourke five weeks to take the old roof off and dismantle it on the pitch. The contractor employs around 160 people on site and has worked until 11pm on the giant crane on fine evenings. Several weeks were lost in the crane’s schedule due to disruption from high winds in the winter but time was made up elsewhere. The five weeks of work on the pitch will be carried out 24 hours a day. Permission is in place for a similar extension on the north stand but the construction work, expected to also be awarded to Laing O’Rourke, has yet to be formally commissioned. Work began in March 2014. - See more at: http://www.placenorthwest.co.uk/news/etihad-extension-reaches-key-milestone/#sthash.q0gdnP0G.dpuf

That's interesting, I'd heard somewhere that sound dampening was included in the original design. I suppose the other stands will have to wait until they're expanded.

I thought I'd heard that too, but I was in the Etihad at the time and the noise just kind of evaporated ;)

I've always thought that to be the case. It's not just the angle of the roof, it's clearly the material too that dampens atmosphere somewhat.

When you go to grounds like Derby the noise is so much louder even though it's only tens of people starting songs at the back of the stand and banging the walls.

Hoping this makes a big impact combined with the singing section in the south stand. Looking forward to hearing it full of blues next season!

Quick Question which I am sure is buried deep in 260 pages of thread.. Are MCFC going to drop the pitch down to improve the experience of the fans in the new three rows?
Nope. That's why the new rows are really cheap

Not sure if people have seen the feature on the OS to do with attendances from away fans this season.

Quite interesting.

Bayern brought 2,600 to a nothing game for them in the CL.

Barca meanwhile managed 1,200 (though there were plenty of their supporters sprinkled around the home sections).

Thought that was quite interesting. I know we don't do to well on home attendances but we always travel well.

Looks like while the club know we need a modern, state of the art stadium, they aren't rushing into following the Barca model on this front by just expanding without trying to develop a waiting list and increase interest in the club. They recognise that the English game prefers its stadia to be full even if that means it's smaller.

I'd expect the follow a similar pricing strategy to the South Stand with the North (though I hope they look into providing discounted family season tickets and prioritise cheap concession tickets in there), before possibly increasing the side stands where they will fill from the bottom up and not worry too much about empty seats in the heavens that will occasionally be filled for the biggest games.

Anyway, I'm rambling as per. Interesting to read about that crane - it's been a intense and complex build program and I've said it before, full credit must go to the club and Laing O'Rourke for their excellence in getting it built - those are some complicated engineering drawings they are dealing with on that roof. Good luck to them in meeting the timescales required for completion.

Cant believe someone hasn't been on a tour this week and got some pictures.
