Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

James was a real work horse for us. However, he's moved on now and so do we. This looks pretty good for us because he's more than likely seen MCFC's summer transfer plans and thought "I don't stand a cat in hells chance of regular game time".

Good riddance, took the piss for too long. Enjoy mediocrity.
At what point did he take the piss?
When he ran the length of the pitch to score against Swansea penultimate game of the season?

Perhaps he's been told he won't play often and has understandably decided he wants to go to a team that will play every week, even if it means 'stepping down'. I don't see how anyone can have any issues with that. See also, Micah Richards.

With ffp looking to be on the rocks becoming less arsed about him going.
Woeful in cm, a decent squad player but if he wants to fuck the club about then he can fuck right off

He's not messing anybody about.
The 'deal' is his contract and he's honoured it.
Will always clap him on and off the pitch but if the club genuinely thought he was going to stay he's an arsehole, plain and simple.

I also think that this pretty much confirms Sterling is on the way and we have done a deal with Liverpool to let him come to us, no doubt for an undisclosed fee to keep there rabid fans content.

There is no 'deal' - Milner was a free agent, so could move to anybody he liked. City couldn't stop him.

Liverpool didnt need to do a deal with City in order to sign Milner

Milner's out of contract and free to agree terms with whoever he likes, I don't think the Sterling deal could be linked with his move in any way.

For everyone jumping on me about Milner being out of contract etc, football directors don't actually work like that in real life, they come to amicable compromises, there will be some sort of 'deal' in place, even a gentlemens agreement where we won't rock the boat and try to hold onto him.

That's what I believe anyway, could be wrong but him being out of contract isn't quite as cut and dry as is being made out. Honestly it isn't football manager stuff, behind the scenes directors, chairmen etc all associate with each other and they don't generally want to piss each other off as it doesn't benefit anyone.

He's known since December that he was off to Liverpool......so fair play to him for his professionalism during 2nd half of the season.

As highly as I've rated him out wide I've always said he's bang average in the middle so good luck to Liverpool.

This opens a homegrown opportunity for Pozo/Lopes and if DeBruyne/Sterling/Pogba are coming,I can see why Jimmy chose to go.

Just wanted to ask the question.....should City have sold Milner last season to stop him going on a "free".....?

I hate to sound like sour grapes but I just cant work this one out for Jimmy. He got plenty of game time here, maybe he just wanted to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond?

He stuck to his contract and he's been a model pro right to the end of the contract so no major moral issue as far as I'm concerned. I don't know why he particularly wants to leave looking at how much he has played this season, how much he is liked by the fans, how much he has won with us and how much we pay him but that is his business, I am sure he feels he has good reason. Hearing nob heads in the media repeatedly stating their surprise that we have "let him go" is annoying me more than him leaving.

Seriously some of the comments here...you bemoan when players are not 'loyal' and don't give a shit about the fans...yet as soon as a player who has been a fantastic signing for us...decides he wants to move on to pastures new...he gets completely slagged off

Can we not just have a bit of common decency, thank the lad and move on...

He's getting an alleged £10 mill signing fee and £150,000 a week. That might have something to do with it but I think the swinger was the center mid role that Bodgers has offered him. He's nowhere near good enough to get in a central midfield of Yaya and the two Ferns let alone the midfield we will have next season so good luck to him.

We move on.

I've got a feeling that he's going to regret the move but good look to Jimmy, he's always given 100%.
