Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

He might have played quite a bit this season but if Nasri had been fit he wouldn't have played as much. He definitely knows he won't play as much next season if we get our targets in, as the positions he occupies (wide left/right and (in his mind) CM) are the positions we're looking to strengthen.
Would have been nice to have got a fee for him but I hold no grudges. He has worked damn hard for us over the span of his contract and whilst he may have only been a squad player he did make his mark on the club and fully deserved his medals, tho they will be his last.

WHY! You just wouldn't take a step back and join Liverpool from playing for trophies to playing for midtable and Europa league. Now to sort out our replacement.

great player and so underrated at city give his all for the club and played were ever the manager asked we will miss him city and its only when you start to miss players you turned to for help when injury to players start to happen you say I should have not let milner go

Seriously some of the comments here...you bemoan when players are not 'loyal' and don't give a shit about the fans...yet as soon as a player who has been a fantastic signing for us...decides he wants to move on to pastures new...he gets completely slagged off

Can we not just have a bit of common decency, thank the lad and move on...

I agree with this. I'm surprised by some of the comments, he played his part in our success, he hasn't caused any drama for the club to get a move. It's a clean break for both parties. I wish him well.

Just wanted to ask the question.....should City have sold Milner last season to stop him going on a "free".....?

As I said earlier in the thread, I believe that because of the Champs league and spending restrictions, City's hands were tied
If those things weren't in place we would have sold Milner and sourced a replacement

I like Milner he is like the model pro that achieved his way to the top feom hard work. Now he is throwing that away to play in a posistion he isnt very good in I just hink he is a twat. Before anyone gets at me I am grateful for what he did for he club and what he achieved I just hink he has blown it all for fuck all in his prime

Milner has not gone for football reasons, good luck to him just a shame things couldn't be sorted .

What will his wages be like? Don't see any report. Usually when City are buying free agents like Sagna last year, it's all over the place, mostly also with some added figures. :)

I guess with the sign on fee his incomings wouldn't be worse than what he have been paid here. I still find it strange though why he wanted to play that much in CM, why he couldn't wait a season or two.

Can't understand the bitterness towards Milner - he saw out his contract, was committed to the end and now want's to move onto the next chapter in his career. Good luck to him.

And for those who are saying this is a step down - come on, he isn't joining a Hull or a Bournemouth - whether we like it or not, he is is still going to a major football club, where he will get a starring role and probably (and definitely unfairly) get more exposure than if he was playing for us.

let's be bigger than this - wish the lad well and let's look forward to City moving on to bigger and better things.

I really don't have a bad thing to say about Milner...the guy turned down a bigger salary from City to make the move...His contract eneded and he wanted to go somewhere where he would be allowed to play that midfield role he's been wanting for a number of years and knew he couldn't have it at City...fair play to him....he was commited this whole season, even tho it was clear that he was going from Christmas...nothing but best wishes Milner!

After lots of speculation regarding his future, the ‘saga’ has now been solved, with James Milner departing the club for Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have ironed out personal terms with the former Leeds, Newcastle and Villa man, who will then join the club officially on July 1 – subject to a medical.

Milner was well-liked amongst City fans for his exceptional work-ethic and versatility. He was always seemingly underrated by opposition fans but only fans of clubs he has played for have a true indication of Milner’s abilities.

He will arrive at Anfield having enjoyed his fair share of success at City. He enjoyed an FA Cup triumph in 2011, the League Cup and two Premier League titles in his stint.

Manuel Pellegrini had spoken of his desire to keep Milner and was regularly quizzed by journalists on Milner’s future.

Milner is believed to have been offered a bumper deal comprising of around £165,000 a week to keep him at the club but it has clearly always been the player’s intention to be a regular in the side. And though he has been a vital asset to Pellegrini and City, he has never been a permanent fixture in the side and that has been a primary factor in his move away.

The 29-year old also sees himself as a central midfield player and that was a role he was never guaranteed at City. At Liverpool, with the void left by Steven Gerrard, Milner is likely to slot in his favoured position.

The departure of Milner will likely spark some action in terms of transfer incomings, as City now need to add more home-grown players to their side having also lost Dedryck Boyata to Celtic this week.

Bitterness is because he has been stringing us all along with so called different reasons. Dishonest to the end -

With the players coming in we're looking to improve the squad, he knew with the players coming in his playing time would be limited squad time, hence the reason for the move.
He gave me a good away trip to Munich when we beat them in their own back yard, i'll always remember him for that, at the Dippers he'll be a bigger fish in a big pool, good luck to the lad.

Its not biterness from me per se I just think he has ended his career as a winner a bit early and im struggling to understand why

You hzve to wonder what our contract offer was to him I'm guessing it was half the 165,000 rumoured and for 3 years I bet Liverpool have give him a 5 year contract worth 150,000 a week either way good luck jimmy I'm sure you will get a great reception when you play at the etihad!

Correct. He's taken the club to the cleaners and Liverpool have got a 10 million pound player for fuck all at our expense. Wish him well at a rival club? He can kiss my arse.

Sergei Dominguez saying he's going to be getting an eye watering 200,000 euros per week wow.
