The longer we wait to buy Sterling, the longer they wait to spend the money.

I love it that we're holding off. I think Liverpool want to sell and they want the money as soon as they can get it.

Might be just that bit more desperate to accept our next offer.

If it was me I'd happily wait until the end of the window, I reckon Liverpool would make a move before then.

Might aswell just bloody pay them or risk missing out. If we don't sign top quality players this year then we are gonna get nowhere near Chelsea. If we want to challenge then we have to get serious and quick or end up with another load of shite we can't shift next season

Actually, that is counter productive for us, as it would be better to get all players in Now, so Manuel has a full squad for pre season. Last time we did that 2 years ago, look what happened.

Also, we have Chelsea second game, so we need the "New Team" fit and ready

But surely waiting til the end of the window would be at the detriment to ourselves as he will miss a full preseason with us, Chelsea h & Everton a which we don't generally do well in.

For the sake of £5 Million I just don't get it

I appreciate its called negotiation. But why would we wait so long.

Last Wednesday news broke we bid 35 plus 5. Liverpool wanted 50 as they have done throughout and rejected it.

Now you know we are going to bid again and so do I. So here we are again a week later with no news of that bid.

What is there to negotiate that takes a week long? Tolmie has already said the players have agreed to sign so it's not that....
How do you know what's being played out? How do you know that the deal hasn't been done for a while and this is all just for the media?

The answer is that you don't but are making the huge mistake of taking everything reported in the media at face value.

How do you think they get news of these things? Someone briefs them, that's how. And that someone can say anything they want to ensure the press publish the story they want to put across. And the story Liverpool want to put across is that Sterling's a greedy bastard who should be paying them for the privilege of playing for the greatest club in world football history.

But if he doesn't want to, then they're going to screw that horrible, classless, nouveau-riche club Man City for every penny they can because they're hard nosed businessmen who no one ever takes advantage of and also own the classiest, most dignified club in world football with a great young manager who is going to win everything it's possible to win.

Perhaps I've gone a little OTT here but I'm sure you get the picture.

For all we know, we could be days behind on this and the clubs may well have already pretty much agreed a fee.

I don't it would be that big an issue. We're buying Sterling for the next 5-10 years, not the next few months.

And personally after a few years of being overplayed by Liverpool I don't mind if we take things slowly with him.

Why are people so keen for us to spunk an extra £10m on a player for no reason other than theyre just a bit impatient to see it done.

We don't appear to bidding against anyone else at the moment and even if anybody else was after him theyre not going to pay more than £40m.

Whatever they say, liverpool need to get rid. Since the club and the fans turned on him, his form took a real dive. They also have a serious rebuild to be getting on with and they need to hit the ground running judging from their opening run of fixtures.

£40m is a good price for him in the circumstances and if they're dragging it out to save face rather than getting on with building their own squad, then I think it's the liverpool fans who need to be asking questions of their management rather than us of ours.

I'm pretty certain that this is the case. All this posturing in the media is just a charade.

It certainly has that kind of feel to it. I doubt the negotiations only started the week before last when the first rejected bid was reported. It appears to me that Sterling agreed to come to us months ago and we've possibly been in discussions with Liverpool for almost as long.

Agreed!

I couldn't agree more...I think it's as we look at over our shoulders seeing others getting their dealings done fairly pronto (granted the dippers have signed 4 players out of contract) but it gives us the fans the impetus and the momentum running into pre-season. You're absolutely right we have no idea where City are at and the agreement is probably all in place, just as one of the impatient fans I want this one done and done soon!!
