To be fair the dippers might buy decent this summer if reports are true. Clyne, firmino and kovacic would all be good signings.

I think Sterling will sign soon, I've just seen him in the card shop in Reddish buying balloons and a bottle of gas...

the way Liverpool are going about the sterling business I won't be surprised they announce Sterling has signed for city

No transfer can be completed until July 1st, I expect the transfer to be undisclosed to save Liverpool blushes and maybe 3 transfers in one day.

English players can be signed as soon as the season is over, it's only the foreign players who can't sign until July when their window opens.

When I think about it, has it actually even been confirmed we have bid for him?
I just remember a lot of media saying according to their sources but I haven’t officially heard a confirmation or a denial from the club.
What was it like in the Big Brother house?

Any signing can happen, regardless of nationality. The delay is wrangling, nothing more.

I feel like the entire Sterling situation highlights the problems Fenway Sports Group has had with their management of Liverpool and the differences in CFG's approach which I believe will prove to be more successful.

There is a long list of Liverpool players who have been involved in drawn out contract disputes, Gerrard, Suarez, Skrtel, Henderson, Sterling and I may even be missing some. FSG's stance with their players wanting to renegotiate has been that having a player on a below market contract is FSG's reward for being smart and getting that player on that contract to begin with. This line of thinking is born in US Sports Leagues with salary caps and is prevalent in the NBA and NFL especially. However, the culture in those sports is so different than football in Europe, mainly in that revenue is not shared as evenly between clubs as in American Leagues but also that top footballers regularly are successful at pushing through moves to other teams.

The result is that having top players at your club and specifically winning trophies has a huge impact on revenue and it is worth it (strictly financially speaking) to pay your stars what they are worth (even though they may be on below market contracts with years to run) to keep them happy and at the club. Also, the lack of a salary cap means the penalty to have contracts that overpay players is only on the bottom line and does not necessarily inhibit the signing of replacements that allow teams to be successful and generate the money associated with success.

The reason I think this is so important to understand is, as fans we need to not be so concerned with the fees and contracts being paid to players. Overpaying for Sterling by 10-12m pounds is not going to affect our ability to win trophies and further, the philosophy that the way to be successful in world football is to save money by getting players on the cheap and underpaying them as they develop or finding undervalued players (the moneyball approach in baseball) is exactly what will keep some of our PL rivals from being successful, both financially and competitively.

I believe in the management at CFG. Not just to win us trophies, but create a financial powerhouse above the level of Man Utd or Real Madrid. I believe this transfer window could be the beginning of our fan base getting on board with that approach due to the success it could create for the club. Despite the infatuation with finding value with players and thinking of them as assets that are underpriced or overpriced that is stimulated by Fifa UT and Football Manager, I think CFG's business model will prove to be more successful in the long term both financially and on the pitch.

I kind of get the feeling we are testing Liverpool's resolve and holding out on our 40m bid for a week or two to see if Liverpool give in and take that money.

Only until we get the feeling that Liverpool will accept nothing other than 50m will we put that offer down in my opinion.

We don't want to look too desperate and Liverpool want to prove they are not a declining team and a selling team.

If Liverpool get 50m for Sterling it will look better for them than it would for us, until he lives upto his potential anyway.

In what world are Liverpool going to give in?

We don't look desperate, we look like we want to bring in a top player. That's all.

Regardless of how much Liverpool sell him for they are already a selling club. Torres, Alonso, Mascherano & Suarez all moved on to win trophies. It's nothing new.
