Fabian Delph

I suspect Delph wouldn't start a game of that magnitude, but he will be a useful squad addition to play in lesser games, allowing the likes of Toure to be rested from time to time.

If only Barcelona had somebody of that squad position with a similar quality to Delph.

Maybe Sergi Roberto is mint on FIFA or something? Or more likely the guy above has never heard of him

Delph can't pass the ball. He literally just runs around a lot. It'll embarrassing how far out of his depth he is.

Disagree, I don't think our midfield is ready to really challenge Barcelona and Real, it's arguably our weakest are, and I'm not sure the signing of Delph does much to bridge the gap. As a say, his price was cheap, but I have reservations over whether or not he's good enough for us.

It wont challenge Barca or Real unless the rest of the team get around the pitch like Barca in particular & Real's, & indeed Bayern's players do.

Barca & Bayern have showed us up for speed & initial effort closing down the ball, as did even Liverpool last season (then didn't repeat it v the rags, wankers).

We have often lacked energy as a team. The players we are trying to sign, including Delph, all help in that regard.

Wouldn't mind signing Roberto, looked a decent player.

Only on BM can a new player be slagged off without kicking a ball. This might be novel to some, but why don't we wait and see how he does, then get back in the ring with each other again to claim the high ground. Its embarrassing lads

Hahahaha, Delph can't pass a ball.

You ever watched him play mate?

His passing is better than Fernando and around the same as Fernandinho. Can none of them pass either?

Jesus wept. Haven't you followed the fortunes of English footballers over the last half decade? Delph can't pass the ball.

Passing percentage is a nonsensical statistic that provides no insight into a player's passing ability. The fact that Fernandinho's passing percentage is lower indicates that he is simply a more ambitious passer.

He's been brought in to fill a quota. If he ever plays against a top team, be it Chelsea, Barca, Bayern, etc, he will be severely out of his depth.

Tbh is rather have seen Delph at the new camp last season in place of yaya who was dragging his arse. Need that sort of energy in those sort of games.

That's because you're crap and don't know anything about football let alone stats. Passing accuracy is weighted against distance and split into several categories each with their own accuracy.

You are so massively far off base saying Delph can't pass that it's literally funny. Like those muppets who said Gareth Barry can't pass.

A huge upgrade? Don't overrate the player just because he will sign for us. He's good, certainly for 8m. And he can keep developing himself with better players around him. It's up to him to claim a regular starting place. I hope he will be a huge upgrade. He surely isn't t that now tbh.

It's down to opinions I guess, but in my opinion, Fernando wouldn't get in Hull's midfield. A truly dreadful footballer.

Milner was great when playing wide against top opposition in making us solid, but in central midfield he stunk the joint out. Doesn't have the speed of thought, tactical awareness or first touch to play centre midfield at the top level.

Delph is a huge upgrade on both in central midfield. He moves the ball quickly, picks the intelligent pass, reads the game well, has great pace, drive and energy. If he was called Delphinho, played for Zenit and we were only judging him on Youtube clips, people would be excited by this one. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

But even in the lesser games Ric, I just don't think he particularly offers a good enough amount of quality to suggest it'd be worth leaving Yaya out. He's not a great passer, tackler, or dribbler, his best attribute is his stamina.

I agree and for £8 mill it would be rude not too that's a bargain for an England international

Agree. Just hope he leads to Fernando leaving or just hanging around to cover injuries.

People need to stop comparing Delph to Yaya and Pogba and accept him for what he is. That is a very good wingman in midfield.

He will add balance to the team which is much more important than signing the biggest name.

As others have pointed out, he is similar to Fernandinho, a lot younger and at a quarter of the price. Add to the fact he's HG.

What's not to like?
