Arguably the most important signing of the summer.

We lost far too many games in the midfield last season, and Pogba isn't a proper ball winner; having someone willing to do the nasty stuff in there will benefit the team.
While the Sinclair signing was a weird one, there was genuine hope that Rodwell could become a permanent fixture in the side if he could stay injury-free which throughout his time here, he couldn't manage. Remember, he was very good at Everton and was dubbed one for the future.

With Delph, it's simply a signing that would give us better quality back-up. I don't think there's an expectation there for him to become a world-beater

Rodwell was man of the match for us against Chelsea towards the end of his first season, and signed of with two goals against Norwich. The talent was there, and despite reports to the contrary, he was fit and available for the majority of the following season; he was simply part of the English core that Pellegrini wanted to remove from the club, along with Lescott, Barry, and Richards. For the sake of kick starting his career, he should move back into his natural centre half position.

Delph has been superb in the past 2 seasons in a position in which we've struggled. He'll have a big, if understated, part to play here, and I'm confident he'll win over the sceptics.

Can't believe some of the posts on here we have 3 cms at the minute in Fernando, fernandinho and yaya, we play 4-5-1 as well as 4-4-2 Fernando got 33 games last season and delph is a lot more versatile then him. I'm not delphs biggest fan but if he comes he will certainly get game time.

You do have some very strange opinions

Great post.A. Agree with every word about Delph, didn't know Pellers was keen to get shut of the old English core you name in your post..interesting

Tripe.

Also, he'll be lucky to play as often as Fernando did last season.

You talk about this English core that Pellegrini wanted rid of but their performances have vindicated his decision.

Barry and Lescott are top players but they are approaching the latter stages of their careers and neither suited Pellegrini's system. Fernandinho and Mangala are both upgrades anyway.

Then you have Rodwell and Sinclair who are benchwarmers for relegation threatened clubs and Richards who didn't exactly impress at an average Italian club.

It was the fact that these English players were not suited to his system or good enough rather than their nationality as to why Pellers got rid.

He has improved greatly these last couple of years, and playing alongside Yaya and Silva will only improve him.
