Otamendi

Denayer has played 3 times for Belgium (competitive games against Israel and Wales, a friendly against France), and 44 times, in his career, for someone's first team, and that someone was Celtic. Regular appearances, and top performances, against the likes of Kilmarnock, Dundee and Ross County are all well and good, but they're not exactly footballing powerhouses. I think it's possible you're overrating where Denayer is currently with regards to his game.

Even if we don't sign Otamendi Denayer is still likely to play less than 20 times for City this season (with Kompany and Mangala getting the lion's share of starts). There's a strong argument that, with so little first team experience, and at such a lower standard, he'd actually benefit more from a full season as a regular starter in one of Europe's top divisions than he would playing a support role for City.

Good post.

Name one youngster that we've let go, over the past 3 years or so, that has proved the management wrong, and improved so much with another club, that they would now be an automatic starter at City

Those who are good enough will make it here, as Innacho, Denayer & Barker will prove very shortly

Sturridge?

Everything you say is right. You are a footballing knowledge leader. No-one else's opinion can shine a light on yours. Oh teach us the ways of football exalted soothsayer.

One of us argued their position, with examples and with clarity of thought. One of us decided the other was talking bollocks because they didn't agree with their opinion and decided to tell them that. Now, which is the action of a grade A bellend?

Yours. You are doing it again now being sarcastic rather than discussing the subject.

You are the one handing out insults not me. I think your point re defenders automatically adjusting to the Prem because they are experienced (or 27 with a load of exclaimation marks) is a right load of old bollocks & not true at all.

Most take time. I'm sure you will know that if you calm down. A few get it quickly but most don't. As I say, I strongly hope Otamendi is one of those who can jump straight in but we won't know until we see him try.

Nacho only played 800 mins for Real across all comps last year and he's 4th choice.

Martinez and Badstuber are versatile. If you class those as CBs, you can class Sagna as a CB for us meaning we have 6. Also, Martinez has huge injury problems

Mattheiu also plays LB for Barca
It's pretty naive to clash Sagna and Badstuber/Martinez as the same sort of players. Tell me, where is Badstubers normal position? And where has martinez played 90% of his games for Bayern with Pep?

Just drove pasted Wilmslow hospital , there's a city fan in a 99 play off shirt outside and a video cameraman ..
Sky tot ,reporting for Bluemoon .

Sturridge?

If you knew anything about City and I mean anything you would know that we tried all we could to keep him but he left on a free which them became £8.5M (after add ons) after a tribunal. Nothing to do with City glowing lights and big pay packet in London. That didn't exactly work well for him did it.

SWP is with NYRB on a similar deal where for his first season he's not classed as a designated player. I suppose it just comes down to whether 35 year old millionaire who's had a distinguished domestic and international career can be arsed playing in the MLS for spends.......

I dont know how SWP will find the time to play for NYRB, I thought he`d be too busy spreading joy on here.

8-)

A gem from the Rag Caf ...

Who do I blame for this?

UEFA/Platini/whoever for being too lenient?
Otamendi for being a glory-hunting cock?
Woodward for not trying?
LVG for not wanting?
Redcafe transfer thread for getting my hopes up?
FM2013 for even alerting me to this guy?

Actually I'm going to vent it all towards Johnny Evans

There were times when I did not trust the judgement of the club, but I have to say I trust them 100% in terms of recruitment if they think they need him who am I to judge

I agree with that as regards the first team. If they think he is what they need then presumably he is & has something we lack. I hope he is an instant hero.
It's how they manage the rest of it that I'm concerned about.

Sturridge was a greedy c*nt Mate, wanted to leave for more money , that was his choice, not ours
Exactly

IIRC, he'd played less than 20 games scored a handful of goals and wanted £85k per week......that was before the latest round of wage inflation over the last few years
He behaved like a d**k, took a while to settle n after leaving us, then matured and has become a decent player

But as others have said, we effectively had no choice and I fully supported our decision not to be held to ransom

Oh and the question was about the last 3 years - he left 6 years ago

A comparison of other teams CB's right now;

Us - Kompany, Mangala, Otamendi, Demichelis (Denayer loaned out possibly)
Chelsea - Terry, Cahill, Zouma, Ivanovic (Providing Everton keep Stones)
Arsenal - Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gabriel, Chambers
Rags - Smalling, Rojo, Jones, Blind
Liverpool - Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho, Kolo
Tottenham - Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Fazio, Dier

I thought our team was still the strongest at the start of the season but with Toure, Kompany & Mangala playing much better already and Otamendi now added it just gets better and better.

I know it is mate, and my disappointment at the knock back effect this move has had on Denayer doesn't undermine my delight at our start to the season, or the wider picture of being a blue at present. Can't believe I have to say as much, maybe it's just the impression I'm giving off, wrongly.

I'm just a bit tired of having my posts flagged up for any hint of criticism. Feel like I have to be on the defensive anytime I give an opinion which is slightly critical, or just slightly deviates from a glass half full perspective that many advocate on here.

I'm as blue as anyone on here, shouldn't feel the need to say as much when giving an opinion because there's a trend on here to try and tar everyone with a 'positive' or 'negative' brush.
You're well within your rights to tell me to fuck off but I'd just repeat it back. I've got match going mates like you are we have right barnies going to and from games. He's never happy. If we signed Messi, he'd complain it would hold Lopes back.

If Denayer is half the player you and he thinks he is, then a second loan this season is still far bettere for his prospects than moving permanently to the Spurs of this world instead of signing that five year contract.

The world just seems so impatient these days. CB for hopefully one of the top four sides in Europe at 20 is neigh on unheard of and to be honest, even without Otamendi, he's best having a year on loan at Everton or similar this year than making 20 starts for City. His time will come.

That's actually quite funny

no mate you cant have double standards,if players from other clubs join us we rebuff claims of other clubs supporters that they came to us for money,so if sturrdge left us we shouldnt say that,i do respect him though for not celeberating when he scored against us
