Didn't mean to be quite so negative about this deal earlier just a bit gutted Denayer won't get a chance and looks like he will be leaving as I rate him massively. No need for the insults though.

Anyway, no doubting Otamendi is one of a few genuinely class CBs and the battle between him and Mangala will be fascinating.

I certainly hope Otamendi has to fight for his place and Mangala Isnt dropped as that would be a kick in the teeth for him.

Denayer will get his chance if they think he's good enough, if they didn't think he was good enough they would have shipped him off along with Rekik.

Let's be honest Boyata got his fair share of chances, one was more than enough!

No professional player worth his sal;t wants to be on the bench, but with squad rotation it has to be. Many have said there are enough games to go round, the extra competition will no doubt get the best out of all the centre backs. If you are on the pitch and not performing there will be someone to take your place, maybe this was missing to some extent last year.

Unless Pellegrini is going to rotate, one of Kompany, Otamendi or Mangala would have to go in the next year or so. I presume he is going to try & juggle all 3.

I think this view is somewhat outdated.

To compete to win in 4 competitions, we need proper cover for each and every player on the park.

I expect each of Kompany/Mangala/Otamendi to get lots of playing time during the course of the next 9 months, and either DeMichelis or Denayer to be there as a back up option if needed.

I agree. I really think City fans need to stop writing down their first choice starting eleven and then thinking everyone else is on the scrapheap. This is a squad game now more than ever and players and fans need to understand this. I can well remember the panic on here when Kompany picked up an injury in training last season before the Liverpool game, well now there's no need to panic. Plenty of games to go around, there'll be injuries, there'll be suspensions and there'll be clever rest and rotation so our centre backs will remain fresh. Cracking signing this.

Nobody has said Mangs is being replaced. Otamendi would have to prove himself to earn a place ahead of Mangs. Valencia would have prefered Mangs going the other way which we didn't seem to agree to and this tells me something - mangala is very much important at the club

From the City angle having spent 32 mill on a CB last year we weren't expecting to shell out the same amount a year later. Admission that Mangala has been a failure?

No-one can blame Txiki or City for wanting to sort the defence out after last year, so buying Otamendi makes sense.

But the Mangala experiment has failed. You don't spend that much on a defender only to buy a replacement a year later.
