City - a club who listen? CityView/Catering rant

They had the luxury of starting with a "blank canvas" for the South Stand 3rd tier concourse and I can't believe what a fuck up they've made of it, it must be the worst concourse in the ground! There are other issues with it but staying on topic, as others have already said they need to split the beer and tea/coffee/food. Why are we serving tea and coffee from behind a counter anyway, what's wrong with vending machines for this? There aren't enough beer pumps and they are spread too far apart, they need to introduce a queing system similar to the ones they have at theme parks, this would stop people queing in straight lines coming away from the bar which would also help with the overcrowding on the too narrow concourse. I've already mentioned in another thread about self service beer dispensers operated by a prepaid card or contact less payment card (not exactly difficult in this day and age). Pricing and quality are still issues despite this being complained about to the club over a long period of time. I know some people can't understand why but the fact is there are a hell of a lot of people who want a pint before the match or at half time and it really shouldn't be difficult for the club to accommodate this without the need for us to tell them how to do it, it's not rocket science!

And people say football isn't becoming more middle class, salad ffs

Haha...I'm anything but Middle Class... Love a greasy english brekky/pies and all the rest of the shit but I would rather not eat it...

Same at the footy... I'd rather be served a fresh salad, a cheap bottle of water and or some green tea but due to my social conditioning I end up getting a foot long frankfurter, 4 pints of piss-fosters and my license taken off me for drink & driving :/

Plus the heart condition.

Lol
You're social conditioning!
Same happened to me mate, I used to be a tee totaller until I got in with the wrong crowd at a European away game. Now they force me to meet them before the game for drinks in some low down hostelry and then I feel the need to carry on at the game.
PS, that chippy I went into in Hyde, and the pub in Wigan were not my idea, I was forced.

Haha....blame them >>>>

how about a bonus scheme for how many pints they can sell at half time. Incentives are needed.

Fast multi poor pumps, Start before half time. Wave and pay.

There should be a law banning people eating hot food in their seats, like there is with beer.

The smell is dreadful.

In the street you can always walk away from someone eating a grotty pasty or pie, but at the match you are stuck with the awful aroma of mass produced pastry and gunky gravy.

Our experience at Chelsea game: arrived at Citysquare gagging for a pint. queue to Bar was simply enormous - the Bar enclosue looked really full so they seemed to be letting people in as others were leaving. Gave that a skip. Into stadium for pint. Fairly small queue and lots of staff manning beer pumps/tills but seemed like they had only just been introduced to each other. Another poster mentioned lack of training and there certainly seemed to be problems. Because of this is took a good 15 minutes to get a couple of pints/pie. Pint v cold but flat. Pie - steak v good. Pie cheese and onion - one of the most revolting things I have seen. Post game - got a pint fairly easily at City square but again, the enclosure very packed. All in all not a great experience but game made up for that!

It could be so different if the catering was run professionaly with trained staff, good supervisiion and leadership, better queue management, more automation and very tight quality monitoring by City. I am assuming that the catering is outsourced but as with any outsource it needs managing closely with penalties applied for any drop in pre agreed quality standards. Bit more space in City square for those wanting a pint would also help.

Out-sourcing is the curse of consumers, we pay far more for a far worse service. I fully expected the Etihad to be the standard by which all stadiums are judged, regarding the overall fan experience, not an unreasonable expectation given the stated aims of ADUG, and how they wish to be perceived.
Contractors will cut every corner they can get away with, the phrase "get away with" is the crucial thing, someone is not doing their job when the service is so far below expectations. If Kaldoon had to put up with the things the fans have to, then things would change overnight, for the better, without a doubt.

I was at the stadium 3 hours before and the young catering staff and gcs? Security lot were going in.

About 12-1? The outside food places were empty then someone arrived and got told 'you've done something like this before so you know what to do' and she said yeah and stood behind the counter and sorted everything about. About 10 minutes later a young girl arrived and she asked if she should be working at this van and I believed she swiped something on the till to tell who she is and it didn't work. They got in an argument about if she clocked in or not and the young girl walked off.

While after that another girl came who was the right one to be working there and she literally just stood there while the older woman was unpacking everything and cleaning.

Got speaking to a steward by city square who is a Rotherham fan and he told me nearly every worker inside and out on catering and security are new. 1 year contracts and they get a form they have to send back by 27th July of what dates they can work during the year. Cause he is a Rotherham fan he looked at some of the fixtures and the day of the Derby at home I think Rotherham play away which he wants to go to but doubts it will be on TV so he is in a predictament where they need extra security for derby game in March. He said not a lot of training whether it be security or catering staff and didn't seem very happy with the supervisor who came over and had a go at him cause he was sat on the table at city square while he was talking to me haha.

Is there a licencing law that prevents the bars opening earlier before half time?
Multi drink pumps have been called for many times and are available at 'lesser' grounds.
The queues in most of the stands are ridiculous and it is impossible to go down stairs at half time queue for a beer and arrive back in your seat for kick off.
If changes were made they would actually sell more as at the moment many people look at the queue and cant be bothered.

It's very much this, the people behind the bar couldn't organise the proverbial...
I've given up having a drink at half time, the only way you can do it is if you miss the last five minutes of the game.

City Square was rammed for the Chelsea game and I wasn't going to wait until they let someone out so that I could then wait again to get a pint.
Clearly it's become popular and now needs to be doubled in size, why not having drinking at the two cafés as well, or open up another bar like the one to the left of the stage?

Due to their inadequacies in providing refreshments in a timely matter the five of us will remain in town until it's time to get a taxi to the game and go straight to my seat. I wonder how much revenue they are missing out on from us alone?

We tend to do the same. We'll drink in The Bulls Head until it becomes clear we need to get in a taxi. Good beer served in a glass and rammed full of Blues. No contest.

I agree about the size, but then again why is it segregated anyway (may be a licensing requirement? ) it was far to small fro the amount of people who want to get in, there were even interlopers in Mod corner!

We stay in a pub near the station for the same reason, decent cheaper beer in a glass and sat down! In fact it's less in a taxi for us than getting the tram up!

It will be due to licensing but they could always apply for another.
Need to keep the riff raff out if you ask me
