Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

A few of us have been pointing to his tactical weakness for quite a while, but the quality of the squad has kept us competitive. The more time he spends with the team the worse we get, and you get the feeling he needs his best players fit to pick up results consistently. This isn't the mark of a top manager and I won't be sad to see him go. If not Pep, then who? Fuck it, I'm going to mention Simeone again. Doing a fantastic job at Athletico with limited resources. There's no way the players would perform like that today and get away with it. Passionate, tactically astute and a track record of success. One of the most promising young managers around who's destined for the very top of the game imo.

He has Chelsea written all over him.

Allegri would be worth a look imo.

The trouble is, who would take over, wish we knew for sure if Pep was coming at the end of the season

ah come on he's prick teasing until the end of the season - keeping his options open and all that - I just hope that if he is going to stand us up at the altar there is a plan B

Allegri would be worth a look at imo but not as caretaker.

Pep gets a call this week and he either takes the job now or we move on from him forever.

We cant keep hanging managers out to dry whilst the Pep pantomime is played out in the background.
Mate, we stand three chances of Pep resigning from Bayern and rocking up at the Etihad, slim, none and fat fucking and we might as well all accept this distinct possibility irrespective of how many of you feel toward Manuel right now.

Allegri is a good shout, but again can you really see him moving to us now? I think that when we decided to stick with Manuel in the summer, it was with a view to keeping him here for the duration of this season, if not why not just go for Klopp? All of this leads me to believe our owner and management want Pep and only Pep and are willing to stand still for a season if it means we get him in the summer.

A high risk strategy, but at least its a strategy unlike the non-strategy I witnessed at Stoke today. Unfortunately I can't see a better alternative other than sticking with Manuel until the summer. Outside of this I have no better realistic solutions to suggest.

STOP PRESS: I'd be in favour of Capello as an interim manager if he was available right now.

I've never particularly rated him but at the beginning of the season I actually thought I was wrong, the way we started in those first 5 games. Now though it's plainly obvious he really is a fucking clueless clown.

Harsh, I know, but correct.

It's times like this where you have to be bold and just sack him, then you shake the tree and see what drops.

We've put ourselves in a fucking shocking position though, and it all lies on Txiki's shoulders.

This summer we had an opportunity to start again and bring in a new man, Klopp was available. Instead, we decided to gamble another year on Manuel in the hope that Pep would say yes in a year.

Now, somewhat predictably, Manuel's coming up short again, and Pep seems in the balance.

If we lose our nerve and sack Manuel now, then this patomine will have all been for nothing. We'd have pissed away a season for fuck all, only to miss out on that elite manager we were after all along.

We might just have to accept this season as a write off at this rate, provided Pep is guaranteed in the summer.

If he's not, and this circus has been for nothing, then Txiki wants shooting, let alone sacking.

We are nowhere near the level of 2012,we've moved backwards so much since the title winning season, including signings and pellegrinis appointment, this squad now looks short of confidence and with the amount of money spent, and injuries it shows that the depth people go on about isn't there, for me he's not got the majority of fans support now because of the way we have lost games and our performance at old trafford,if Guardiola isn't coming I'd look at replacing him ASAP, if he his witch is a possibility then pellegrini knows and that is the biggest problem,he doesn't look motivated and the lack of intervention from the technical area proves it for me.

"It doesn't matter which names start as we will play the same style"' - Pelligrini yesterday

That's the problem, he's fucking bone-idol. He just picks players, the wrong players may I add, and hopes they win

He's not a top manager, in fact, he's a pretty shit manager. We are going nowhere with him
Forget Guardiola, we can't write another season off. Get rid and get someone who recognises the need to adapt and take the opposition seriously

i think this clamouring for Pellegrini's sack is a sad state for the fans to be in; it's creating a massive divide, though more and more seem to be coming down on the side of getting rid.

i read so much that fans should be ashamed that we dont get behind city but so many voices calling for sackings. this confusion and rash thinking wont get the club anywhere. i, for the record, also found myself disliking pellegrini today, i thought he was wrong and did nothing to inspire me throughout but i dont think he'll walk (and nor should he)

Nope...he should stay till the end of the season...we will face more problems if he is sacked now...we will finish in top 4 no doubt but no chance of winning

The problem is that there is some doubt about top 4. In our current form, it's far from certain.

I know someone that may be tempted to reply to that by saying "wipe your fanny"
I'm the happiest of happy clappers mate but all reach that tipping point.

I'm not even arsed about the league now, I'm worried for our top four space. Since West Ham we are barely averaging more than 1 point a game and in previous seasons we've lost the odd game but this is the first time in 5 years that we are often totally outplayed.

Anybody who seriously thinks that a manager of the calibre they want that can

a/ take the club to the heights we want between now and May
b/ is sat around doing nothing and is available rather than working at a club weaving his magic on them
c/ would come knowing - if Pep is a deffo for next year - that all his hard work won't get him the gig beyond May

really isn't sane. If they can name that manager I would be very interested to hear.

steady on mate thats positive talk..... won't be welcomed on here. We are only in 4 competitions you know - things could all go tits up at any moment.

ps

just seen someone advocating making Kompany as player manager to the end of the season - now thats the sort of stuff you should be saying blueinsa - Lol !!

And your expectations were what?

- not to beat the mediocre sides we've faced in the Capital One Cup so far
- not to qualify from the Champs League Group
- not to challenge for the League
- get knocked out of the FA Cup before it starts

Brand wise we're now the 4th biggest club at the table and have the 4/5th best squad in Europe.

Just because you have low expectations, don't mock others who want to aim higher.

but, having said all the above, i cannot doubt that Pellers is creating a rod for his own back sometimes, and when so many are against him then sometimes a club will act simply to retain unity.

however, would we act when we are so close to top and doing well in cups? would make us look very spoilt anfd rash

I shouldn't be saying this but at the moment I ll take a ManU type performance in the next few games...control and stop conceding goals...

It's a simple scenario for me, pep refuses to sign a new Bayern contract, they realise he's off and decide to cash in early, therefore peps only decision is.if he's coming or not, if he is, then why has he not already turned down their new offer.

If he goes he goes but i would suggest any manager even thinking about taking the job if it wasn't pep would be asking the same question and that's, how long before you start courting Pep again?

Ferran, Txiki and Khaldoon have to either persuade Pep to come and commit this week or we move on from him as its getting ridiculous.

If it carries on like it is no one is going to have any sustained success with us.

Spot on.

Just to play devils advocate....isn't the style and formation we play also dictated in a sense by those above?

This holistic thing was that throughout the club we could play the same way? The same style of attacking football with the high line of midfield and defense?

Maybe but to not play 3 proper midfielders away at Stoke where you know what you are going to be up against is ridiculous. First and foremost you have to match the workrate/desire of the opposition and make yourself hard to beat, 9/10 our superior quality will shine through. We didnt do any of that today. How the hell he deemed it right to leave Delph out i will never know.
