John Stones

You have to wonder, with the rumours of Mangala being offered to Valencia in the summer and questions over Vinny's long term fitness, whether we will be in guns blazing for him in the summer. I know Denayer is highly rated, but I haven't seen enough of him to ascertain if he is up to the standard City need. From what I have seen of Stones he really looks the part, and will probably cost a fortune.

Have to ask yourself the question would you be happy with him going to Chelsea or Utd and them getting 10+ years out of him. My answer is no, City should be hunting down the best English talent and making the club the No1 destination for top English lads to want to come to. Sterling is at City. This lad should be next. I also think City missed a trick with Deli Ali at 5m but that is easy to say in hindsight.

Agree we should I be in there with the rest bidding for him

I know we've spent quite a bit of money on defenders recently but this guy will become a real superstar and it would be foolish to allow teams like Chelsea to have a free run at him. If he was willing to go abroad I could see top foreign sides attempting to sign him too, comfortable on the ball and reads the game well. Must buy IMO.

Whats his injury record like? as well as the quality, reliability has to be a huge consideration in any future centre half.

Vinny's fitness will determine whether we go for him I reckon because if he carries on getting regular injuries we will have to look for a long term option to him.

I think Otamendi next season will start to shine and I think communication and getting used to England is holding him back a little at the moment.

Mangala for me is a interesting case because we spent so much on him can we really think about selling him so soon?

I think if he carries on as he is until the rest of the season then we might just have to although I think a loan somewhere is more likely as he could shine there and be ready for us a season or two later.

Denayer will replace Demichelis I reckon so that should free up a foreign spot as he should be homegrown, also buying Stones would mean being able to buy another foreign player.

I would love Stones as I think he could just be on his way to becoming the next Ferdinand. I think we need more English players in the dressing room as all te great English sides have a strong English/ British core and I reckon even now he would be a regular in the team.

Everton would demand Sterling money, that would be the biggest hurdle.

Pep may have a candidate already, just saying :}
Stones reminds me of the late great Bobby Moore, calm under pressure , great awareness, and has a '' presence'' on the pitch that the best players have. He will be able to pick from a list of top clubs, all throwing money at him, if he chooses City, I for one would be delighted and relieved a rival has not signed him.

Wonderful talent and has everything to become the best defender in the world, I genuinely believe that.

His composure and passing of the ball is a delight, and he has a seriously underrated change of pace.

I was relieved Chelsea didn't get him. Sadly, we should be cutting our losses on Mangala, and go all guns for Vinny's long-term successor.

I was expecting us to go for him, past summer. I am pretty sure he is going to be the next John Terry, it can be for us if we sign him!

Pique's overrated. A total shithawk of a centre half who has been branded world class because he has been porking a pop star and looks good on the ball for Barca.

When the going gets tough Pique bottles it.

I wouldn't swap Mangala for Pique but I'd swap Mangala for Stones in a heart beat.

Whether he is overrated or not, isn't the issue: But considering John Stones a better version of Gerrard Pique is laughable.

This generalized opinions of players not playing in the Prem is all well and good. But Pique is a legitimate class CB. And yes, he is great on the ball. But also fantastic at anticipating a play and his positioning is top notch.
Yes, he is a good descriptor for Stones. But he is currently miles ahead of Stones.

Is there any evidence that we're interested in him? It was all Chelsea in summer, and no doubt the media will do their best to pitch him to the rags, but I don't recall any interest from us. Especially having recently signed Otamendi for £32m and Mangala for way too much.

It's sad how Mangala doesn't seem to have worked out yet. Huge transfer fee, looks to have all the attributes but it's not happening for the guy is it. Maybe he needs more time to settle, or maybe it's just that Pellers' tactics leave our defence out to dry. Stones might look shit under Pellers too!

I think at this moment in time he yes.

Barcelona reportedly want him and I think he would get into every top side in England as a regular.

Stones isn't perfect but he is on his way to becoming the best English ball-playing central defender since Ferdinand.

Denayer has clear quality but for me he still has a little bit to go before I think he could be a regular at City, albeit I think eventually he will.

I would love Stones though and personally would love Barkley as well leaving us with a solid English core of Hart, Stones, Barkley and Sterling.

I do think we miss that representation from our own country as all the top Champions League winning teams that have have been English have all had a strong English/ British core.

It's a difficult one because if Kompany struggles with injury for the rest of the season I think we may have to start looking for a defender that can be viewed a a reliable option to him.

Otamendi given time to adapt and learn the language so he can communicate perfectly looks very good for us in the future. Demichelis looks like age has caught up on him at the highest level (top4/ Champions League), Mangala still has questions he needs to answer for me and Denayer despite being the future for City and looks certain to replace Demichelis, he isn't ready to be relied upon as a first choice yet.
I think you're right, he does seem to have outstanding potential but I'm not convinced about Barkley though.

wed be stupid not to try and buy this guy, one of the best young players in europe right now and he's a northerner/ english, we have to get the very best young english players.

I think Barkley has become more consistent this season imo and getting better but not sure that he's at our standard yet ( having said that some of our midfield displays has been indifferent to say the least ) however he's only 22 so if he improves tactically which he should and along with his natural ability, I still think he's a player we should keep a close eye on.

Tosin is developing in a similar manner to Stones imo,a calm, ball playing centre back who reads the game superbly. It may well be the case, along with Denayer,we have no requirement for this kid.

Yes, good prospect, just like denayer.
The problem is of course we might need to get a manager who would give them a chance, in exchange for the one who refused to give maffeo a minute of football despite our first choice right back being injured for half the season.

Im confident we will be getting that manager, hence our current one displaying such a short term mentality by having little thought for our future.Playing any kid is a risk that Pellegrini seemingly would rather not take.
