Peps Targets

Delph has actaully played exceptionally well for us when asked to play in his actual position of midfield. The problem is, Pelle has shoehorned him out on the left for many of his appearances, and then subbed him early wondering why he hasn't performed to the required standard. When played in the centre he has shown tenacity that we have been lacking, while he has also demonstrated impressive play making and passing ability. He aint no winger though.

Completely agree I think he will at least stay another year.

Pep doesnt value tenacity. He values pass and move, and players who like touches on the ball and are technically sound. When you consider the players who couldnt get in Guardiola's team, such are Cesc, Thiago (at Barcelona and Bayern), Gotze, christ even Alex Song!! It just shoes the high calibre of midfielder Pep is used to working with.

Fair enough, Delph may stay one year, but I think he will rarely feature given the brand of football Pep wants to play. After all, whats the point in hiring Pep if we cant provide him the tools available to him at Barcelona and Bayern? Pep's Barcelona were brilliant in midfield because ha had Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets, and his Bayern team Vidal, Alonso, Lahm. Pep wont be replicating success at Barcelona and Bayern with players like Delph.

Top manager, but he isnt a miracle worker - he needs world class players to play his system.

You think Pep doesn't value Thiago ? I think Delph has the ability and the attitude to work and learn from Pep enough to stay around the team.

I remember when we were linked to Rodwell, Javi Garcia & Fernando.

Many of us were excited that these players will improve our squad but it didn't turn out this way.

It seems whenever we are linked with a player, many get excited that we are going to buy new player regardless of how useful this player will be.
Gundogan, Pogba, Xhaka are a bit different class than Rodwell, Javi Garcia and Fernando don't you think?

You are totally wrong about Thiago. He's only played 63 games for Bayern, but that's due to the fact that he was injured for 88.
When he was fit, he played in every important game. Even last season he was already brought in against Porto even though he was only back for like 2 weeks after being out nearly a whole year.
He's being rested a lot, but that's just because Pep wants him to be at 100% in the important matches. In fact, he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

Well Pogba Gundogan and Xhaka does play regular top football and actually is the heart of their teams and isnt the low standard that Rod Javi and Nando is on.

So I guess I should take this in bits and pieces:
1. I don't comment like I know a lot of things about every player. But well known players I do have an opinion on. Just like anyone else, coz I watch.
2. I guess you missed the part about Pep's system helping, Oh wait, you couldn't have, seeing as you bolded around it. You couldn't have missed it. I guess it didn't fit into the pseudo point you wanted to make.
3. As to your question of how many hardworking players came to City when they humiliated us. Well, Schmetzer, Pischek, Blackowski, Bendtner, Subotic, and Reus, were all ultra aggressive. Hummels, Gotze and Gundogan were less so. But that's neither here nor there.

And just so you have a video understanding of what I mean when I say Gundogan and Pogba can be described as the softest of the midfielders in their present squad, here is a video of Modric V Dortmund (the return leg in Madrid and not the one in which you claimed Gundogan was pressing like a madman) but still appropriate:

I mean really, to justify your pitiful assessment, you gave me the link of 2nd leg of Dortmund's Champions League semi-final? Even though they had already beaten Real Madrid by 4-1 in the first leg?
Get a grip or ask the clueless in charge when his players tried to press high up the pitch and Gundogan dropped into the back to help get around the press. Seriously, don't even bother replying.

Gunn's looking to go out on loan next season. Wigan are very keen to take him as their no1 for a year. He was promised the third choice position this year and time on the bench with the possibility of some minutes in the cups but City went back on that promise. Preston wanted him on loan earlier in the season but we wouldn't let him go. Overall I've been told he's been a bit pissed off with this season cos as with any young player he wants playing time and experience at league level to keep progressing. Hopefully that'll happen next season and he'll come back ready to kick on to the next level.
Thanks for the info and i can fully understand his frustration if the club has reneged on their decision.I dont think we handle our youth at all well on occasion.

Didn't we also promise Denayer that we would not bring in any top-quality CB's and then we brought in Otamendi? I think this is certainly having an effect on the U16's and may explain why they're yet tp sign new deals; we have to fulfill our promises to youth players because, if we don't, they won't believe anything we say.

While Pep will bring in at least a couple of big names, what might be most exciting is how his philosophy and coaching style brings out the very best in players like Silva, Nasri, De Bruyne and Aguero. Players with technique and vision will thrive even more than they have done under Pellegrini and that's why we'll be ready to compete with Barcelona, Madrid and Bayern this time next season.

+1. BUT players as Nasri and Silva, if they want to stay they will have to up their physicality and their hunger. Pep wants 100% pressure on and off the ball.

by looking at our current squad u can see that lads like Yaya, Fernando, Bony, Kolarov, zaba caballero and Demi arent going to stick around with Pep at the head. To slow and doesnt have enough to be here next season, and as much as i love and appreciate how much they've all done for the club, its time to move ahead.

Agreed except Zabaleta is the type of player Pep likes: presses extremely well, good short passing, overlap runs and versatile. Hopefully we'll see more youth like Denayer, Angelino and Manu Garcia. Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal will be 20, finished loans next summer and ready to play in cup games.

Were Guardiola able to bring a player from Bayern, Alaba would be the best option - at 23, he's the world's best left-back and can play in central midfield. John Stones - another versatile option who could play in a defensive three, at center-back, right-back and potentially holding midfield. Xhaka to replace Yaya with Fernando's rotational role taken by Alaba and Stones.

Best XI next summer:

Hart (29)
Alaba, (23)
Zabaleta (31)
Otamendi (28)
Kompany (30)
John Stones (22)
Xhaka (23)
Sterling (21)
De Bruyne (24)
Silva (30)
Aguero (27)

After yesterday I think it's safe to say Willy, Demi and Aleks fall under the "out" category along with the likes of Mangala, Yaya, Nasri and Bony. I doubt Delph will make the cut unfortunately and Navas doesn't strike me as a Pep player either. I count as many as 9 outs which is not unrealistic given his 1st year at Barcelona.

Caballero and Kolarov definitely. If MdM was younger I think Pep would use him, but he isn't. Mangala totally useless on the ball. Yaya gets his pay day elsewhere. Bony? There is a player in there trying to get out but cant see him here next year.

I think that 9 out wouldn't be too many as I am sure he'll want 4 new players in and make up the difference with EDs players so as not to have a bloated first team squad.

The problem is will we be able to move on some of these guys. Who is out of contract. I am guessing that Mangala and Bony won't be. I'd keep Delph and offload Fernando, but again his contract is probably not up and like the others he'll be on good wages.
