Never ever buy English. Home grown is the only way to go.

Even if they are crap they are better than throwing money away on what will become crap.

Please let Sturridge be the last lesson learned?
true mate. would like to see hummels at city to be honest.
The problem is most guys on here prefer people like laporte because they have seen less if him.
No doubt they will say they watch every game!
Stones is a very good footballer and a good defender
we need good footballers who can keep and pass the ball. This meabs the opposition have it less and therefore you defend les (pique good example. Not fast or great defender but won everything as he is perfect for his team)
Denayor a great prospect but unproven in prem . Unlike stones

Looking like the English David Luiz more and more each week.

Great on the ball but can't defend.

So, 87 pages in. Is he worth the £50m that the papers keep talking about, or are we down to the £30m mark by now? Oh, and that's taking into account the English tax.

He's not worth anywhere close to £50 million but if we're interested then I imagine Everton will push for a figure close to that.
We could do with him having a bit of a nightmare these next two months and miss the euros meaning his price tag might drop to somewhere nearer reality.
He's got bags of ability, he's also got plenty to learn. That's what we should be paying for, a work in progress, but as we saw with Sterling we're not that lucky in the transfer market.

We can't take anymore risks on defenders. For me Stones can pass the ball, has great close control and can read the game well. Those are basics that any defender should have. I'm sick of people talking defenders up because they're able to actually pass a football. That's a prerequisite. Stones is like a bus, he's very slow over the first couple of yards and against quicker players is easily turned because of it. That remains a concern for me.

We're talking big money if we were to buy him and currently he's too much of a risk. After forking out £70m on Mangala and Otamendi, and with Kompany yet again injured we shouldn't be paying huge money for anyone that isn't showing themselves as a consistently good defender.

He certainly wouldn't be someone I'd be willing to break the bank for.

Barry and Hart have been seriously good buys for us, Lescott, Milner and AJ were hardly disasters though the first two were a bit expensive but Lescott no more so than a lot of defenders we have subsequently bought and junked.

Delph looks just as good a buy as Garcia or Fernando though the jury is still out.

I think Sterling will come good and has certainly been better at a higher price than Jovetic or Bony.

English players have a bit of a premium but they are not universally crap, that said I wouldn't be happy paying a large premium for Stones.

Mangala gets a pass for being utterly woeful because apparently he just needs a coach like Pep.

Stones is just shite though and shouldn't be looked at twice by ourselves.

Seems legit.

Injuries aside Delph has been superb for us IMO

To be fair we've already got Mangala so wouldn't it be best to try to get the best out of him rather than punt another 50 mil on Stones?
Why is the desperate logic that Mangala will suddenly cease to be bad not being applied to the apparently bad Stones though?

Stones was / is talked up to soon! If he strings together a full season of decent performances then by all means £50m but he hasn’t played that much and in that time there have been plenty of sub par performances and mistakes. Understandable at his age but it is to soon to say he is anything other than a promising youngster and any bid would be a punt.

I would much prefer giving Managala the chance to play alongside Vinny or Komps for an extended run. I’d prefer to give Denayer a shot over MDM without any reservations and I would also look at Humphreys coming through who looks the business to me. We have too many options to warrant a punt on Stones.

We've cloned him. Good idea, 50% less chance of injury
