The battle for 4th place

You are right but if Liverpool won The Europa and we won the C/L and the rags finished 4th, they would lose out.
I'd rather us finish top 4 the right way but that scenario would be piss funny.

So there would be 4 English teams in that case? If so then why were there 5 Spanish teams in it this year if the same thing happened (Spanish teams winning CL and EL)!?

Possible Scenarios, with only 4th spot altering and both Liverpool and City winning their European competitions:

1. Leicester City - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
2. Tottenham - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
3. Arsenal - Qualify for Champions League on league position. If City win the Champions league they will enter the playoffs. (I think)
4. Man City - Qualify for Champions League on league position or winning it. Winning the Champions League would automatically put them in the group stages
5. Man Utd
6. West Ham
7. Liverpool - Qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League. Could be 1st seed if one of the top 7 leagues champions wins the Champions League as well.
etc...

1. Leicester City - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
2. Tottenham - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
3. Arsenal - Qualify for Champions League on league position. (Again would probably have to play the playoff round).
4. Man Utd - Drop into the Europa League.
5. Man City - Qualify for Champions League through winning it.
6. West Ham
7. Liverpool - Qualify for the Champions League through winning the Europa League.
etc...

So in summary 4th would drop into the Europa League if a 2 teams outside of the top 4 win the Champions League and the Europa League.

Last year Spain had 5 and none of the top 4 were affected because the winners of the Champions League were already in the top 4 (Barcelona).

Also the scenario below is why we may cheer on Liverpool if we have a chance of winning the Champions League:

1. Leicester City - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
2. Tottenham - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
3. Arsenal - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
4. Man Utd - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
5. Man City - Qualify for Champions League through winning it.
6. West Ham
7. Liverpool
etc...

Also the nightmare scenario:

1. Leicester City - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
2. Tottenham - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
3. Arsenal - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
4. Man Utd - Qualify for Champions League on league position.
5. Man City
6. West Ham
7. Liverpool - Qualify for the Champions League through winning the Europa League.
etc...

If we pick up the three points against Chelsea this weekend I reckon 4th is secured.

But that's on based on our fixtures on paper, which our recent performances have not come close to how we should be playing...

There won't be a better time to play Chelsea but it's a real bogey ground for us. One win in 20 odd years is as poor as the anfield record. It needs to change because with 3 of the next 4 away, we have to pick up points in these games. Southampton won't be easy either. They are playing well currently.

Its not going to be easy, United's fixtures look pretty easy. 13 points from the last games will guarantee 4th, so we could afford to lose once, but a draw at Chelsea would be a great result.

Cant see them getting more than 4 wins 2 draws , so 10 more points should be enough.

Chelsea have stopped playing for hiddink after knowing conte is inbound. I think we'll do it next Saturday, Chelsea have clocked off for the season, nothing to play for and the players are on the beach already . And on the flip side the way the season has gone don't be too shocked if villa go to the theatre of 1-6 and snatch a point. They are down, the pressure is off, they will just go for it, what they got to lose!! And utd are fucking shite.
The first part of your post makes sense but the rest is wishful thinking. The rags are poor enough true but have you watched Villa lately? 3 home points absolutely nailed on mate!!

We need a minimum of 12 points looking at the rags remaining games and I think we'd need to win all our remaining games to catch arsenal or spurs gonna be tight! Hopefully though with players bk and us usually finihing the season well im optimistic we'll just scrape in!

I loved Nasri's post wankers interview where he said that we will finish 3rd as we will win all our remaining games, which means we will beat Arsenal then gave a telling cheeky smile.

I absolutely love Nasri, we have missed him so mush, and I hope Pep keeps him. I thin he will because he likes players that can keep possession of the ball and mot give it away.

It's going to be very tight indeed.

United have three at home on the bounce, perhaps Palace can give them a game, but the Villa fixture is essentially a one-point gap, at any stage, if we don't win all our remaining games.

We need to get a win from one of Chelsea or Newcastle, and cement that with one against Stoke.

That will set up the Arsenal game. My fear is, West Ham might be taking their foot off if they beat United on Wednesday in the Cup, and start to focus about a potential final.

The United loss at home has really left little margin for error us.

I just can't see us losing another game

We will beat Chelsea, Newcastle, Stoke, Southampton Arsenal, Draw Swansea away
Utd will drop more points than us and West Ham will finish 5th.
Utd will win FA cup

You can't see us losing another game? Fuck me, what gives anyone such confidence. Even with KDB and Yaya coming on to save the day at the weekend, we squeaked home.

Much more realistic to assume that Chelsea put out a scratch team at Swansea (not sure the circumstances) but will be fresher and can certainly claim to be favourites, being at home.

Newcastle could actually be going into our game knowing a defeat could send them down, and that will be an absolute bear pit.

Even Stoke could be pulling teeth, although I see a win.

As for Southampton away, Arsenal and Swansea, again, all too difficult to call.

We have put ourselves in this mess. Spurs did us a massive favour and we have to hope Leicester are going to United to win it there on the day. Only then, will West Ham's home game come seriously into the equation.

It must have been the stunning performance on Saturday.
