John Stones

hes a fantastic young player. yes he's making mistakes, but he's young and the type of football he tries to play that could happen. people in this country like to ridicule young players, examples being kane, sterling, barkley.

Even after his first great season people were saying he was a one season wonder and when he wasn't scoring at the beginning of the season - he wasn't good enough. same with barkley and sterling now as soon as they have a few bad games they are shit and aren't good enough.

stones clearly has the talent to be a very good defender.
Because Everton have been generally poor this season and lacking any cohesive structure Stones has been more exposed than previously. I think the guy has potential but doubt if it is wise to fork out 50 million.

Direct from family member, pep has intimated he is very interested in John, who says if pep wants him he will come

The problem is most guys on here prefer people like laporte because they have seen less if him.
No doubt they will say they watch every game!
Stones is a very good footballer and a good defender
we need good footballers who can keep and pass the ball. This meabs the opposition have it less and therefore you defend les (pique good example. Not fast or great defender but won everything as he is perfect for his team)
Denayor a great prospect but unproven in prem . Unlike stones
And Larpote is not that? If I was in charge, ID probably get both. Either will be good. But Laporte is currently better. That may change. All players develop differently.

Mangala gets a pass for being utterly woeful because apparently he just needs a coach like Pep.

Stones is just shite though and shouldn't be looked at twice by ourselves.

Seems legit.
Ahh! I see you picked up on the the double standard.

The only problem Stones has is with his decision-making. I'm sure that could be sorted

Not sure we need a defender. Otamendi, Mangala, Kompany. It will come down to whether Kompany has a good Summer

He keeps trying to come back for City/Belgium when he needs rest
And you have just put together a fantastic argument for why we need a Central defender, we are not sure of Kompany. And if I were to guess, ID guess he misses half the games next season. This will be more in line with his history.

I wouldn't take him. Get in Laporte and persist with Mangala along with Vinnie, get Denayer back and try to give Adarabioyo some game time, perhaps in the COC. He showed potential against Chelsea, before (naturally) tiring.

Why not wait to see how Kompany does over the Summer

Does it matter how he does? He is an Injury prone guy who's getting older. My sense is more likely than not, he'd be injured again. So plan like he will be, then if he isn't, You have an unexpected luxury.

I don't want Stones if he was priced what he's worth then maybe but even then he'd still be a liability we already have defenders who have mistakes in them... it will be the same all over again but worse IMO.

Stones has potential but he looks green to the point where I think the best thing for us would be to take that risk on one of our academy prospects we can ease them into it. If they are having a bad game the manager can sub them, with no pricetag to justify they wont be played if they aren't in form. Most of them now will qualify for home grown I expect, we have English ones coming through too... is it not true?

Totally agree, we can hope that he will be fit but we have to plan for the likelihood that he wont be

Anybody thinking Vinnie won't continue to be troubled by recurrent calf injuries is deluding themselves.
We definitely need cover at CB but must not end up paying silly money as would be the case for Stones.

I'm not saying Stones is the answer but we need to develop a solid reliable centre back structure. VK can only be a back up option we simply can't risk him in a primary role. You can't build a team around figures who don't play regularly - as we have witnessed this year it undermines the team. I hope Vinny forgets the Euros and just takes time out to let things heal properly; he's valuable to the squad in many ways but at the moment we cannot rely on him.
