The battle for 4th place

Really fear for our hopes now. The CL not helping our cause, gonna go right to the last game.
 
Stoke is a must win. I am crapping it and I hate revisiting this thread numerous times. I don't trust us at all to win our games, just hoping the Rags mess up Leicester and West Ham.
 
We've beaten 1 team in the top 8 is it? And can't even beat most of the relegation fodder down the foot of the table. Like fuck do we deserve 4th and if we finished outside of the top 4, it'd actually be an accurate reflection on our capabilities as a squad in the league.

I find it utterly astounding and disgusting that this squad can turn up for the champions league, but disregard the supporters and give such a lackadaisical approach towards the league campaign. If they can turn it on for their bonuses and pay outs come May and secure 4th, I reckon we will have scrapped over the line in a photo finish at this rate.
 
If Rashford and Martial fire Utd to fourth ahead of Kun KDB Nasri Silva then football is fucked off for me. Bed time. So so angry.
 
No chance we'll make 4th. 0 points at Southampton, maybe 1 at Swansea and a defeat at home to Arsenal. Won't be enough.

Have you looked at this squad properly and ever thought is it even that good? So many average players and players who are well past it. Shit result tonight, have to play a strong team agaisnt Stoke now.

The teams ability should be greater than the sum of its parts really. We have a couple of world class players which is more than most in the league and enough capable players who have been on and done it on the biggest of stages. But they look like a bunch of strangers, even in half our wins.

What the fuck do they do all week in training? Apart from gob off to the media about how the next match will be different.
 
Decent point I thought. Anyone who thought Newcastle would be a pushover at this stage in the season does not have a clue.

We need to beat Stoke. After they got humiliated last night by Spurs, and with the Real Madrid game looming, we have to dig 3 points out of that game

Sorry but completely disagree. A shite Newcastle team who have been awful this season should have been beaten and given the battle we have 4th spot we needed the 3 points but as usual in games that matter this season in the league the players were not for it. Shocking performance from our lads.
 
Too many players know they are going and only want to play in the CL matches in hope they leave with a medal. They lose 10% of their performance in the league because they lack the incentive of winning top 4 for themselves instead of their replacements.

The league team should only include players certain to be here next season from now on. Why on Earth Iheanacho never gets a decent run is inexplicable.

Looks like we might need to win the CL to get back in as I suspect the next two league games will be a struggle given the 'distraction' that the league will be and we might need all six points from them. Which is far from a given.

Remember after this weekend United will have a game in hand over us. We have to keep 4 points minimum clear of them going into that as it is by chance now West Ham's last ever game at their stadium and that occasion - especially if nothing is on it for them by then - could make it an easier game for United than otherwise. Last games at stadioums tend not to be great performances.

If United go into that West Ham game less than 3 points behind us we are stuffed as top 4 is in their hands not ours.

So next two are now must wins for us bar an unexpected slip up tomorrow. Pressure we did not need around the CL games.

In other words we will only know if that was a good or bad point by the time we face Arsenal. Right now it could be either.
 
Complacency had kicked in a bit on here. We were Lucky to beat West Brom but that was forgotten with the last two performances.

Tonight's performance was no different to many others this season especially away. We have only played really well in about 5 games away. The rest have been average to poor
