John Stones

Stones is miles better than otamendi and mangala.
everyone picks up on every mistake he makes
both otamendi and mangala were bailed out again by hart yesterday
People just need to accept mangala fernando and bony etc not at peps level.
he wants to coach good footballers and stones us clearly that

Did I imagine that Stones just let Martial run inside him & score the winner & that he came out, missed the ball, went back, looked over his shoulder & completely lost Fellaini for the first as well as losing him at every corner kick & that he didn't even get off the ground to defend the cross for Liverpool's opener midweek ?

I'm just asking, in case I was watching the wrong bloke, as people seem to be praising a 'John Stones' & I'm assuming there must be another one.

I would definitely still have him. He got bags of potential and he played really well 2nd half. I believe Pep would turn him into a defensive midfielder like he did with Martinez and Lahm
Also Pep is much better coach than Martinez especially at coaching defenders. Give him 2-3 years with Pep and Stones will be a fantastic player, and in both positions I reckon

This. He showed in the 2nd half that he can play in defensive mid aswell

I think there's a few of us on here that are sharing this delusion.

It's bizarre.... Never seen a player cost so many goals as he does and get the hype he has...

Because he's 21 years old, and is in a side which is a shambles defensively. Under a top manager such as Pep he'd be a star.

He's the best defender of his age in Europe. More talented than Denayer who has been given some elite status on here.

Culpable for the 2nd and 3rd Liverpool goals too

I can understand that people see a player with possibilities, but to me that's all he has ever shown. He hasn't shown Beckenbauer like ability on the ball, just 'good for a defender' He hasn't shown any kind of positional sense at all or instinct to sniff out danger. He hasn't shown ANY big match temprament being useless v us, Liverpool in the derby & now the cup semi. No outstanding pace, no particular toughness.

Sure 'perhaps' someone can bring him upto the top level. If they can't & he remains the player he is now, he's as big a liability as Demichelis. Why not just sign someone better & let others worry about him?

Rodwell was a better centre half for Everton at a similar age.

Best in Europe? Bloody hell there must be a serious lack of talent knocking about if that's the case.

That's a fair shout & people talked about his football ability.

The only reason I can imagine we would be in for Stones, is for the same reason we signed Rodwell. He's English.

Lots of good English players out there to sign who would be valuable additions to the squad. With Denayer coming back Stones definitely isn't one of them, we'll have the best age profile for centre backs of any top club next season without him and he's not an upgrade for the position on any of ours. Besides, we already have 4 non club developed but association trained players in the squad so Stones is at a huge disadvantage to Denayer in that he uses a squad spot that Denayer doesn't. If we're going to sign an English player as a marquee we should break the bank for Kane.

Agree with all of that except where do you think Kane would fit in to the team? He would normally play where aguero plays

Won't sign Kane or any other centre forward unless we are planning to play 442, the money he would cost we would be much better off spending it on somebody that can play wide and score to play in a 3 with Aguero and Sterling.

I don't think he's an out and out no.9, he's played deep and out wide for spurs and done well. In any case, central midfield and up front are our weakest areas as a squad and there isn't a centre mid good enough.

It will be total waste of money, we have 3 very good CB ( Kompany, Otamendi & Mangala ), would you swap them with any team above us in the table ?

The best prospect out there, defensively.

Better than Denayer, Otamendi or Mangala.

As for his performances this week, the kid demanded to play despite a serious case of stomach flu.

Too many are looking at his valuation, which is Everton's right and nothing to do with the player.

We can afford it.

He's got a Rolls Royce engine hiding under the bonnet.

I remember you being as confident about Bony's abilities,i say that because I agreed with you :-(

It looks like this is happening and i cant pretend to be impressed, however,he certainly plays the ball better than Otamendi and Mangala,so,in that respect at least, its an improvement.I guess the masterplan is that he wont have much defending to do when our midfield is revamped.
