FC United thread

I was involved (loosely) with the Salford RLs move from the Willows to their new ground. That was a complete shambles on the part of Salford council. They basically bent over backward to get the new stadium built – throwing £ms into the project even though some of the country’s richest families were also involved and putting little in. Then while the thing was being built the club was on its arse and going under so to avoid the problem of £ms being spent on a ground for a non existent sports club they threw more £ms at the club to keep them alive long enough to move into the ground. Once they were there they backed off and the club was on its arse again within months. The council bent over backward again for Koukash to buy the club to keep it going. So £ms of public money spent and the end result is a very rich man has picked up a sports club with a new stadium for little money. Fantastic.

That sounds dreadful. It's always the council tax payers who suffer, as well.

In contrast, although David Conn harps on about City's deal for the Commonwealth Games stadium, I think that one has actually worked out really well for the club, the Council and the community at large.

Yep, and no white elephant for tax payers to pick up the tab. Also helping in the regeneration of Moss Side.

The notion of a blue playing for that abomination of a club is more than a little disconcerting.
So was Alan Gowling, who had a City sticker in his car when he played there. Remember when Tueart scored the winner in the 1976 League Cup final, and the media went on about him being a Barcode fan as a lad? Not a peep about Gowling's City affiliation.
Does it matter who you support as a kid, a job's a job at the end of the day.

(Unless, of course, the player happens to have been a rag "supporter", when the media will take great delight in telling you about it, even if the match is between Fleetwood and Blackpool.)

I would never be critical of someone for making a living and providing for their family, but I know I could never play for united or any bastard child it has spawned, but then again I am a bigger blue than most ;-)
To be honest I agree entirely. Had I been good enough to play at that level (and I wasn't), I would have taken the Mike Doyle approach and told the rag scout to piss off! It wouldn't have mattered how much in terms of £sd they offered, I wouldn't have been able to do it.

£sd?

You're showing your age, mate.

;-)

Ever wondered what becomes of rats after they've deserted the sinking ship? Wonder no more... They remain rats.

You would have missed a great opportunity to beat Richard Dunne's own goal record.

Pitch invasion , game stopped and smoke bombs set off. Got very nasty today, various things being thrown including cans. They will get fined, whether they will have money to pay is another matter. Pictures on the FC Facebook page.
Oh dear, can't wait to speak to FC fan in work!
