Paul Pogba

AS:

Pogba, "Go to Real Madrid? I don't know, we'll see."

The #FRA midfielder was responding to a Madridista in Clairefontaine.
Doesn't he always say that though? I seem to believe he said something similar to a City fan in NY last year if I remember correctly.

Terrible news if he goes to the Rags.
Midfield is an area we need to strengthen. Worried were already lagging behind this summer

Stuff him...thiago is ready made for pep's systems, and is far more likely.

Thiago and Kroos would make for a dynamite window.

Its funny, only yesterday the scum were all out for Neymar and then he signs a new contract. Now all of a sudden they are all out for Pogba according to the rag tops.

It would be an absolute disaster if he goes there. One of the very few players who would take a 5th, 6th, 7th ranking club which is where I see Utd finishing at this moment, to title contenders for years to come. It directly affects us as it makes what we want to do so much harder. However, we may know he's not coming to England and will only leave Juve for Spain. If he goes to Utd though that would be a massive error of judgement. I don't believe for one minute the claims that Pep doesn't want him.

But I like the additions of Nolito and Gundogan. Not sure how that can be described as lagging behind.

Last season we had 3 weaknesses in the squad:

1) Toure was gone, and we had no credible replacement
2) Navas for2nd season running scored zero goals from outwide.
3) Fullbacks deteriorated. Attacking full back play is a huge part of the game. Sagna is poor going forward. Zab slowed up. Kolarov the best going forward, but lost it defensively. Clichy OK, but no more than OK. This is the area that needs sorting now: unless we're playing 3 at the back which is a possibility.

Worry for me is KDB/Silva. Difficult to see them working in same team. possibly 3 at the back would allow us to do that

Agreed, our acquisitions thus far as good but we still seem to be unable to get a "crack" player as MP said last season. And don't get me started on Navas, he's awful.

Well he ran riot against us and he has power and blistering pace and is a perfect fit for a team managed by Klopp. Apart from that yeh it's a fucking hilarious signing!
Agree, good signing for them. When they want a player they put the dosh down, no questions. Sometimes it works and sometimes it goes pear shaped (Benteke).

As for Pogba, still a great player even if it looks like we're not getting him. unmitigated disaster if the rags get him. They should offer whatever it takes. Fortunately I doubt they're even close, given his previous association with the club and the fact that Real will probably move for him.

A more discernible weakness last season was that we were physically and mentally, erm, weak. Any number of slightly built short arsed midfielders, a short centre forward, and in the absence of the injured Kompany, 2 short centre halves out of the 3 that remained.
We had sand kicked in our faces repeatedly, by the dippers twice, by Stoke, by Leicester, by Spurs, by Southampton and we couldn't cope with Van Dijk, Huth, Giroud and several others in the air.
None of the players we are being linked with addresses that problem. Not Nolito, not Gundogan, not Sane, not Stones, not Thiago Alcantara, not Zinchenko. The Premier League is not like other leagues. You will repeatedly find yourselves in physical battles and you have to be able to cope with that as well as play pretty football. Pogba is the player I want above all others this season and I'll be dismayed if he goes to the Swamp

Having a powerful player n midfield is an asset - no doubt. But if the players are athletic and can control the ball and move it quickly it's not so important. Pressing the ball when we don't have it, and quick 1 or 2 touch when we have it

I'll be dismayed too. I suspect we may regard the deal as too expensive which just hands him to Utd

Beginning to hope that Pogba does go to United. We'll see then who made the error in judgement.
