This assumes we have only the option of big brother. I would like to think we can self moderate better than those in power think we can. Now this is the tricky bit...
What mechanism would allow for greater scrutiny and less intereference from a centralised monopoly of power who would trample over the rights of the individual for the greater good?
I don't know is my simple answer. I just feel useless as an individual to stop these atrocities, and feel that we have to give greater power to those who's job it is to protect us. Again, I'll say, only in the correct manner.
Now that I say that, isn't it correct to allow all of our security services to do what is needed to protect us providing that it's done properly. What's the point of those services otherwise?

Agreed with you Pam, and we all know that it's impossible to watch everybody all of the time. Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but I just want our defence to be as strong as possible. My big brother thing may not be what's required, but I'll sign up to whatever helps innocent people as much as possible

If an automatic weapon and grenades were involved, that could at least be something they could look out. And open borders. ... is that realistic in such a climate? I don't know. 'Is our privacy more important than our lives?' I'm not sure how anyone can oppose that really. If big brother has to know about everything that I do / have done but that knowledge ultimately saves one of my family, then just do it as quickly as possible. I've got absolutely no problem expanding that to include the lives of all decent people whoever you are.
Agree, Britain would be target no.1 but we've had nothing of scale since 7/7. Our domestic intelligence is clearly doing a good job.

You do realise how many millions may die if Global Warming predictions are true?IMO this is far far more important than global warming for example. The focus should be on this. If I had to try to battle an impossible task it would be this above all else.

When one considers that 1,000+ are killed every year falling down stairs in the UK (some 10,000 more than by terrorists in the UK over the last ten years), why isn't the government enforcing a bungalow only policy and ensuring everyone is safe?

I'll ignore the abuse in what I was trying to contribute to a serious discussion on the awful events of tonight, but just say that I believe that knowledge is power and the security forces who on occasions put their life on the line for all of us, should be given every support in what they try to do.
