Etihad atmosphere

the crowd was a bit quiet but its been the same for a while. As the football improves then the atmosphere will as well.

Some of you lot on here are weird, weird folk. 'I don't go to the games, or I do go and don't sing... I'd better get on the forum and moan about it.' What a fucking joke.

I moved to the singing section, and I sing, what more do people expect? If you want to help, fucking move. If not, shut the fuck up moaning about it. The 1894 group have really gone and above and beyond for the sake of the atmosphere and it's never good enough for some people. That truly is typical city.

These threads are always the same. If the amount of people who moaned about the atmosphere on threads, actually sang themselves, it would be like an Instanbul derby every week

The only way it will get resolved is 1) get some of the old chants/songs going again 2) get some new chants/songs.....but then it needs people to do it and it seems most can't be arsed. Thought Saturday was flat as fuck with most of the noise coming from the Mackems, understandable as they were the hard-core away fans much like when we go away. Desperately need some new stuff though, with Manuel gone and Vinny and Pablo out of the team that's effectively 3 songs out of the window...... Shame, we could have a right party home and away so lets hope things improve
We need to forget about player songs and get some new City songs.

What do we have?:
The best team in the land and all the world (probably the last City song we made up and it's two decades old)
Come on City (awful!)
We are City from Maine Road (good but outdated)
You are my City (never catches on around the ground)
We're not really here (more of a celebratory one that)
And dreary old Blue Moon (boringly insipid)

And that's about it.

No "Manchester" songs. No new "City" songs for decades. Just a load of player songs or anti-United songs which are fine when those players are on the pitch or we're winning easily but they aren't songs to sing in a close/tense game to spur the team on.

Agree 100% with all what you say....ironically, the old 'City' chant which is inspiring and would destroy any chant/song from the away support is rarely used!!

Very true frank.

It get's me, when a lot who moan on here don't even attend the matches.

No they dont. The best time in my life atmosphere wise was around 1998 - 2001. The crowd was much younger, groups of lads, and consequently our away following was much larger also. It was a very exciting time.

Now that demographic are in there late 30s/40s still probably going but the years of underachievement has resulted in a much smaller younger fanbase following on.

The demographic is different and as a result the crowd. For me going the Etihad is still a tremendous experience. 55k in the crowd every week and the blue moon, to herald victory on saturday, in SS3 was still ridiculously loud.

The crowd is different to days gone by, it maybe a bit more sanitised, but the plus side is scratching around for mid 20k gates and 15k in the cups are a distant memory. Swings and roundabouts.

It's become an audience not a crowd & it'll get worse under the new style & tactics....just look at Barcas atmosphere, awful.

We won't play rip snorting, counter attaching football. Lie down & endure.

Champions but without the feeling.
Another negative post from you surprised, you smell

Saturday was embarrassing at times, just listening to the away fans sing us out of our own stadium.

£5 concession to those living within 5 miles, get more hardcore fans rather than the out of towners which I must admit I am one of
turn yer hearing aid on or turn the telly up to full blast

we have plenty of easy, simple songs we could be singing. we need more songs where the whole crowd can sing.

you are my city..
guardiolas blue and white army
come on city

Fuck it I'll try again.....'Ooh Guardiola, He's not Spanish, he's Catalan, He could have stayed at Munich or he could be in Milan, but Pep has come to City cos he doesn't need a tan' (or he's got a masterplan) to the 'Balotelli' song

You can't hear them because away fans up there can be deafening. The Sunderland up in SSL3 on Saturday were excellent.
I know I'm stood next to em, Embarrassing, Hopefully a 1 off, When the south stand 3 does get going it's as good as anywhere in the world.Playing shit teams does not help when we just expect to walk it.

the etihad is no better or no worse than any other prem ground, todays etihad wipes the floor with the maine rd of the 80s and 90s and i wont be told any diffrent by rags on a wind up and non going match blues,

It's not that easy. The reason why it was located where it is was because that whole area was vacated by the away fans when the 3rd tier of the South Stand was built so it was a unique opportunity to fill it with pure singers. The trouble is, some of those that relocated to that area then relocated again to the £299/£380 seats in SS3 and the gaps were filled with fans who don't have much of a penchant for singing so the effectiveness of it was diluted before a ball was even kicked.

It would now be impossible to relocate the singing section to SS3 because it's virtually all season ticket holders and hence there's no room to stick hundreds of singers up there.
There is enough room,You just relocate the away fans down there and you come up to there end.Solved would be one of the best atmospheres in the league.

Then you end up with all the away fans together behind our goal, that would be rubbish.

Why? You wouldn't be able to hear em or see em as the noise does not travel,But they'd be able to hear us alright.

Mate ive got no beef with the way it is now but atmospheres have changed within all stadiums.

Not every game was buzzing in the 80s and 90s but as a whole the two eras are not comparable. One game I will never forget is stoke in 98 when we turned it around in the second half and in those days the singing would start, for the big matches 1:30 onwards next to the away fans on the Kippax. Now you are lucky if people can be arsed rushing there pint to see kick off
