Does Yaya still have a role?

You wouldn't expect DeBruyne or Silva to play next to Fernando in a two, v Liverpool, for instance. They are younger.

De Bruyne and Silva are completely different players with completely different skill sets. Yaya can't do what they do and they can't do what Yaya - a player who has been a holding midfielder for the vast majority of his career - used to be able to do.

Those two you mentioned were bought entirely for offensive purposes, sometimes being deployed on the wing when required, whilst Yaya has always been a central player who was bought to dominate games from deep. That naturally includes the more defensive side of the game.

I'm sick of this nonsensical idea of Silva and De Bruyne being trotted out as an excuse for Yaya's lack of defensive contribution. And you know what? David and Kevin have both run their arses off so far this season.

Indeed.

But in Silva's case, not last season or the season before. I'm actually the opposite. I'm completely fucking sick of people expecting a huge bloke like Yaya to leg it about like a small bloke. And as for his skillset supposedly being suited to that job, since when ? His attributes are all creative & he's been immense in that department. Why the fuck is he supposed to cover centre mid but others have license to swan about ? He's shite without the ball same as Silva Nasri etc but has been expected to be much better as well as scoring their goals for them. And as for him playing as a 'holding midfield player' when was he ever played there for City ? He was a centre mid, usually in a two, & totally unsuited to it. He was never in a two at Barca even for one single game. If City wanted him to 'dominate games from deep' then they should have played two in there with him & let him do it.

Because he is a centre mid. He should be covering himself. Silva is an attacking mid/ winger/ second striker and De Bruyne similar.

Even when Yaya has played as an attacking mid, he's built from deep, run at midfielders and defenders and shot from distance. That is the way he plays. He can't play with his back to goal like Silva, doesn't create space for teammates like Silva, doesn't cross like De Bruyne, doesn't have the speed of De Bruyne.

Like it or not, centre mid/ deep lying playmaker/ whatever you want to call it, that's Yaya'a position. With that territory comes the natural responsibility to defend. And if he was really so good in a higher position, he'd be taking either of their places in the first team.

There's a reason why he's not in the team and the other two are. Most people would guess that he's not capable or doesn't want to put in a defensive shift. That just won't cut it. Nobody is getting a free pass to "swan about".

That's what I mean , I knew Aleix has travelled and it's unlikely Yaya has considering he hasn't been in any of the others
Apologies; misread your original comment.I can't see Yaya featuring too many more times, even less so when the inspiration behind your username is fit and available for selection. KDB, Merlin, Dinho, Gundogan and now (maybe) Garcia all seem likely to be above Yaya in the pecking order.

Every **** had a free pass to swan about when Pellegrini was here & most of them took it when we lost the ball especially Silva & Aguero.

The reason Yaya isn't in the team is age. If he was younger he'd play all the time, but NEVER EVER in a midfield two. We have watched players stroll about not even bother to pick up.from throw ins etc because we have had a shite manager who allowed them to.

Yaya is amongst those players. But the rest get a free pass, even Kolarov.

The squad in the main were poorly managed and that is a widespread and reliable enough assessment of last season, but returning to the point, only Yaya agitated for a move unlike the rest of the squad who have buckled down to the task in hand and have done it successfully up to now.

Kolarov most certainly didn't get a free pass. Nearly everyone - myself included - vented their frustration at his lack of effort and wanted him gone. Glad to be proven wrong in his case.

Age doesn't come into it, he doesn't get in the team because he doesn't offer as much as the others. How old is Sagna again? How old is the goalkeeper we just signed? Zabaleta is getting on. Same as Kola, Fernandinho, Silva, Clichy, Kompany. Age is just a number.

If you're suggesting that Yaya's age is a determining factor because his legs are going, I wouldn't argue with that. But then, that just backs up what I said about him either not being able or not being willing to put in a shift.

Yaya has a problem, he's a big geyser and that unit takes some shifting. He isn't getting any younger.
His bad mouthing agent does him no favours, either.

If he agitated for a move & he's so shite, why is he still here & why did he start almost every game ?

Zaba is a regular & Kolarov is the new pet. Both were garbage last season, Zaba due to oldness & fatigue & Kolarov due to being shite.

I'm saying that Yaya has never had the legs to be a Colin Bell kind of midfielder (isn'f fit to lace his boots & if we had one now we'd win the league by 20 points) but somehow this huge wardrobe of a guy is supposed to be able to do it when Silva etc wouldn't have a hope when they were 21. If he was slim & 5 ft 6, & the exact same footballer, nobody would dream of asking him to mark Fellaini at the swamp, they would treat hilm like Pirlo was treated at Juve.

If Pep wants 3 runners in midield, Yaya is no use & Silva/DeBruyne are on their limit.

People were linking us with Kroos a few weeks ago. Try asking him to mark Fellaini in a two man midfield at the swamp.

That's the point. His agent is a ****. He's huge. He's getting on. He's also reallly clever & talented footballer. So if we need a clever but not the most mobile footballer, who is fitter than forc two years, scores goals & STILL a potential matchwinner, we have Yaya. If we can't fit such a player into the system, because he isn't sharp enough when we lose the ball, then we don't need him.

All the rest is bollocks & not needed at all.

It looks like Pep has decided that way.
