City v Everton post match

Last 2 seasons we've morphed into Arsenal and the signs are appearing again. Completely dominate but have a soft under belly and weak mentality. Confident Pep will sort it.

I'm one of the first to question the players' mentality but when the players rescue the game despite conceding against the run of play and missing two penalties, I'd say the collective mentality was pretty good yesterday.

I thought that Gael C was superb and easily our MOTM.I accept he got skinned by Lukaku but how many defenders have.Quality finish but what about that goalkeeping display .. truly amazing especially that save from KDB.From the CBL3 stand it looked all the way in.Why the fuck don`t we shoot more often instead of playing too much tippy tappy in and around the box.Ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.Other than the result I thought we played well enough to have won,but just one of those bad days at the office.

I thought Clichy had a good game too but can't agree that he was easily MotM. Silva was not unreasonably awarded it - he played some lovely stuff and won a pen and assisted on our goal. I also thought Gundogan, our most invovled player, along with Dinho, had a very good game.

It gets criminally overlooked this. Like Bravo with his debut, cae out second half and still went for it and matches after. That takes a lot of mental resilience to be that confident after a mistake. Same for the team as a whole yesterday and against Celtic, we showed great mental strength. That is because imo the players trust Pep implicitly and if Pep shrugs a result of, they will, not with complacency i may add, they just trust him totally and rightly so history shows.

Can't believe some of the negative comments on here - we played some fantastic football yesterday against a well drilled team with good players and still created a good amount of chances to have won.
You're gonna get days like this but to question the performance or mentality of the players as some have is baffling. All I see is a team that is only going to get better with time and I for one am fully enjoying the ride.
Too many slapped arse "Fans" who are now thinking that we have a Devine right to win games - get a grip, be disappointed we didn't win but don't question the effort, desire, mentality and that performance.
And relax.....

Can`t argue with some of the players you mention but I thought Clichy intercepted balls time and time again, moved forward and was instrumental in many good things going forward.I just tend to think that certain players get overlooked when it comes to MOTM performances and for want of a better phrase "the usual suspects" tend to get it.
Its all about fans perception and everyones interpretation of performances but at the end of the day we played more than well enough to have won, just one of those days had we got it right then we could easily have won by 3/4/5 goals.

This sums up yesterday really. And despite Everton hitting us with a sucker punch we still had the bollocks to get back up and score.

Can't legislate for our two best players missing penalties in the same game, we just have to accept their keeper did his job brilliantly, it'll happen sometimes.

We'll probably lose at Barca midweek too, and the rag media will be all over four games without a win. But really, it's just a blip and we're still top with the world's best manager and probably the best squad in the league and almost an entire season to play.

I thought we played very well, but something is wrong right now with that team. Gundogan needs time to bed in and looks individually good, but we definitely look a better team with Silva in a deeper role next to Fernandinho rather than Gundogan.

Sane looked absolutely excellent yesterday and I thought taking him off was a mistake, unless Pep is saving him for Barca.

We are playing some incredible football but it's clearly not the finished article yet.

And Clichy should hang his head in shame over the way Lukaku had his way with him. That was an embarrassing attempt to cover. It's high time we play Angelino & Maffeo and see how they fare, because it cant be any worse than our current full back performances.

I had you down as more knowledgeable than this... What's wrong with team then?

After watching the game again, we really did play some beautiful football yesterday. Makes it even more frustrating that we couldnt kill off the game and get the 3 points but from a performance standpoint it was lovely to watch. Just need to have that killer instinct in front of goal....

What did you miss from the first analysis?? Genuine question

I wouldn't pay attention to them they didn't watch the game

Coleman should have walked but for that sack of slag called Oliver
I said that Coleman should have got a red card for his awful tackle, whilst the ref didn't
even give a free kick.
Definitely think if it had been our player that did that tackle it would have been highlighted on motd and been shown as many times as possible to get a retrospective ban.
Oliver is a wank referee and hopefully we wont have him for a long time.

It's quite easy to get back quickly and fill a space if you don't move from it in the first place

Exactly, it's irrelevant how quick you move the ball if the opposition doesn't move, they'll still be where they were.

I don't think they do stats for it, but I would bet if you looked at each EFC player's heat map, they'd be pretty narrow. Everton seemed to have 6 players all of very high quality with no freedom at all. They stayed in position, to their credit they had a very defensive game plan.

If like Everton you have a very good squad and a very good manager and they set up like yesterday it's very hard to beat.
You need to take your chances.
You certainly can't miss chances like we did.

The fans shouting for it to be quicker, or take men on were ignoring the oppostion.
As you say, doesn't matter how quick you move the ball if they are set in position.
If the pass cannot break the lines I find it hard to believe a long distant shot would fair any better.

It's like the fans shouting shoooot all game. Ignoring the 10 professional footballers and international goalkeeper being paid £70k + a week to stop them.

I thought we were sensational in parts yesterday.
Our front three could all have played for the EDS. Which is very exciting.

Another day, De Bruyne buries that pen, Everton game plan is out of the window and we win well.

Couldn't agree more. Clichy was very good yesterday. Sadly many will pin their goal on him.
He defended very well yesterday, was front foot aggressive and as you highlight, intercepted very well and got us on the front foot quickly.
Everton clearly put Lukaku on him and hit balls on him for over an hour. He dealt with an athlete far bigger & heavier than him well.

I don't tend to watch any of the highlight shows after a negative result as the pointless negativity pisses me off.
I've heard on here the blame is portioned between him and Bravo for their goal.
For me, Clichy was covering for Otamendi going ball chasing again and Stones being unlucky on the half way line.

The ground Clichy covered to get over to Lukaku allowed Lukaku to turn, get into full stride and determine his own path. Normally a foul would be an option, that would have seen him sent as Otamendi was 50 yards away and Stones was recivering. Once a player of his size, speed and quality is near impossible to stop in full flow especially if a foul isn't an option.

Silva for me was MOM but Clichy was certainly very good. His positives far outweighed the one questionable negative.

I havn`t read a lot on this thread but it wouldn`t surprise me in the least to hear City fans blaming these two players for the goal.Bravo had no chance and the thing I always ask is "would you have put the blame on to Evertons goalie had he conceded that type of goal had it been Sergio ?" Of course they wouldn`t.
Lukaku is one of the fastest players in the PL so I`ve no idea what else Clichy was supposed to do.Not many blaming Stones though for his stupidity in trying to intercept a ball like that on the half way line. The lad got owned in that move but he`s young and he`ll learn from that mistake.

Southampton will be another tough nut to crack as they are really solid at the back this season. Only 1 goal conceded in the last 7 Games and that a dodgy pen. I'm sure they will set out with exactly the same game plan, try to frustrate the crowd and Nick a goal. Be interesting that game after Barca away and with the rags in the week in the cup the game after.

Having seen their goal myself, I was dumbfounded that any blame was put on Bravo. There was the 'Hart would have saved it' mob and one poster claiming Bravo did well to avoid the ball hitting him, I kid you not.

I thought Stones was a little unlucky, Bolasi was a little lucky, that's football.
Otamendi was the culprit for me.
Went wandering, chasing the ball. I won't be too critical though, if we praise it when it works we have to take the rough with the smooth.
