This didn't surprise me at all.

The ideologies and methods used by Trump were almost identical to the campaign ran by the Brexit crew.

The focus on returning to the country of old and 'taking back control' were both absolutely key to taking votes from white people in the UK and US.

In addition, racism and xenophobia is manufactured by convincing poor and working class white's that minority group X is to blame for their poor material conditions rather than those in power.

These people see someone like Trump spewing the same hatred and then believe he stands for them and their beliefs.

I didnt have the sound on, but read the subs and none of that seemed racist to me... (apart from the 60s stuff obviously..)
There's plenty of examples out there to show a lot of Trump supporters out as racist but this isnt one of them... If they are going to try and make a point at least use some of the videos of them actually being racist.

Well I did say I was trying to put a brave face on it. It's done now, isn't it, so we can either be depressed and sulk for 4+ years, or try to look for some "hope".

Absolutely spot on with your summary of how he got elected and your comparisons with brexit which were identical.

What you have a simple message that simple folk understand and the US has plenty of them just like us.

Play on the ignorance of old people the voters they are ignorant/racist and stupid enough to believe you its the politics of old but its a winning formula.

A divided nation with plenty of infighting will ensue just like ourselves.

It will then be left to Trump who has absolute power over both houses now to do what the hell he likes.

What i saw from campaigners for leaving was people sick of people imposing more laws on us of whome we never voted for, the EU and the direction it is heading, we didn't want to be part of that either. I never got 'make Britain great again' from it all at all, just 'we are best out of that and taking stock'. If some did they never got through to me as that ship has long sailed.

Either way, interesting times we live in right now.
