Donald Trump

They've called it. The media have finally called it.
I called it months ago, should have gone to the bookies. Next 4 years will be interesting. Still can't get the hair vs hair match from Wrestlemania out of my head when i see him.

Can't stand Trump or his policies (whatever they are) but, as with the EU vote, this result shows that until those in charge start listening to people's fears rather then belittling them & their views then they deserve to be given a kicking at the polls.

I don't have any real fears over immigration, race, security, etc, but it's time to realise that some people genuinely do

Why is this the case??? It's because the difficult debates that need to be had on these matters have been stifled allowing the more extreme members of the public & the media to exploit the situation. It's time to get these matters out into the open and talk about them.

The vast majority of people (right, left, centre) are decent folk who feel as though their voice has not (indeed, will not) be heard. They need to be given the opportunity to express their anxieties without fearing that they are going to criticised for doing so.

So, whilst some people do hold abhorrent views (and changing their minds is probably a losing battle), before calling Trump voters or Brexit voters thick, racist, bigotted etc, perhaps people should be directing their ire towards those in charge who have not allowed an open debate to take place (perhaps they should look at themselves too!), because only by doing this can people be educated on these matters.
Good post.

I agree that not all Trump voters are thick, racist, bigoted etc but I bet half of them are.

They may not be thick, racist bigots but on the whole those that voted for him were lesser educated, white, homophobes as the exit polls tell us.

Can I ask you which way you voted sir - yes siree I voted trump
What colour would you say are you - I'm white just like the lord above
Are you uneducated - what's that mean?
Do you like gays - theres no fun in bum I tell ya

Thank you Cletus have a nice day

No wonder turn out is low it appears they ask you everything except your inside leg measurement

It's the same with Brexit. Not all of his voters are thick racist bigots, but all the thick racist bigots voted for him. (and he and the Out campaign both very much courted their votes)

Trying to look for positives this morning, perhaps, just perhaps, he isn't the buffoon we all assume him to be.

We can criticise all we like the idiotic things he's done and said, but at the end of the day, he's won. So maybe he's a lucky idiot. Or perhaps he's simply realised he couldn't fight Hilary on the experience and policies ticket and therefore as a shrewd operator, he's devised a strategy to win using the cards he's dealt with. i.e. stay off policy debates, keep spouting populist bullshit and keep banging away about Hilary being a crook.

It is not inconceivable that he is actually going to be a whole lot better a president than people assume. I remember similar disgust when Reagan won and yet he's regarded as one of the better presidents of the modern era.
I agree with what you've posted. We'll have to wait and see but it's very much about the people he will be surrounded by. And he got there by reflecting the anxiety of working class America rather than being part of the political class, somewhat similar to the way Thatcher originally seemed to represent working British families who were fed up of a fragile economy, inflation, industrial conflict and the general air of slow decline. Whatever her subsequent rights and wrongs, she offered something different which struck a chord.

And when you look at his key pledges, there are some that make a lot of sense. The question will be whether he can deliver them.

I hope all the lobbyists, vultures and general government affiliated gravy train cunts are shitting it. Dunno what his stance on deep government reform is (in detail) but i hope he has the stomach for a bit of that.

This.

Something that seems to be forgotten. Trump isnt backed by banks or expensive lobbyists. His cabinet choices will not be decided by Citibank

People didn't want another idiot puppet who will stand next to Jay-Z, Beyonce and a load of other morons who don't even need to worry about who is president. They want someone who will stand on their own and take action and beyond having a go at Trump, Clinton promised none of that. Trump had ideas normal people could relate with and he has promised to deliver them, if you ignore the crap surrounding him personally I don't know why anyone is even surprised by the result.

But I'm still not clear why they are less entitled to their vote and opinion than anyone else.

What i saw from campaigners for leaving was people sick of people imposing more laws on us.

Everyone who i know that voted Brexit, i ask them directly - what particular Law has the EU imposed on us that made you want to vote out.

They couldn't answer it.
