Bring Back Joe Hart

I'm not sure Bravo is good enough, but Hart certainly wasn't.

There's a lot of valid talk in the media about Hart not being good enough with his feet - where's the talk of him being horrendous on his left side? A shot low to Hart's left was almost a guaranteed goal. We saw it time and time again during the last couple seasons, and twice at the Euros.

Let's be honest, if Hart was a top goalkeeper, he wouldn't be at Torino. If Neuer, De Gea or Courtois were available on loan next summer, do you think they'd end up at a midtable Italian club? No, me neither.
Nice to see someone telling it like it is without flowering any shit up. Fully agreed.

So how many goals have we conceded because of Bravo's mistakes with the ball at his feet?
None. Fraser Forster is terrible with the ball at his feet but I'd hazard a guess that he's only conceded the 1 goal as a consequence.

The idea behind Bravo was that his ability on the ball would be the over riding factor in our new philosophy and how he would effectively allow us to play with an extra man. So far that extra man has been fairly poor at keeping attempts out of his goal, been very average with finding blue shirts on anything longer than a 10-15 yard pass, non existent with his ability to communicate and inspire any form of confidence in the defence and fairly sketchy at times with his decision making and general control.

I think what I am trying to say is, I don't think his actual footballing ability is anywhere near as good as the LA Liga experts on here made out...or if it is, he's very hit and miss in showing it.

Whilst not disagreeing with your general point, to be fair to Hart he went on the market barely a fortnight before the window closed. Had City publicly offered him up at the start of June I don't doubt he'd have fetched somewhere more glamorous than Torino

The two posters below both agree with the view that he's not that great with the ball at his feet. Obviously we are all imagining it.
yes, that is possible - that you are seeing it through the 'filter' of your own mind...more 'imagination' than actual 'fact' :-)

Is the correct answer. None. I'd say his ability to help us keep the ball and move it with purpose has helped us far more than it's hindered us.
This and with time understanding will improve aswell. I'm still on the fence regarding Bravo, he's the style of keeper we need but is he the type that saves/wins us 10 points a season?

I've no desire to denigrate Hart, but I believe other clubs were made aware of his availability long before that.

And yet we appear to be conceding more and scoring less than last season maybe just a coincidence of course,I'm sure the manager will get it right once he gets a grip on how difficult a job he's got on his hands.

the story maybe be over with joe hart at manchester city i don't see pep changing his mind and also joe hart will want to show him and stick 2 fingers up joe will be back in england next summer and at a big club like liverpool or spurs and city need to cash in and get some good money for him before he can walk away for free. we just have to remember to good days and the bond we built with joe hart he respects the fans and is one of us so go on joey hart we love you and give you a great hand when we meet again

It’s difficult to truthfully assess the balance between distribution and shot-stopping without trying too hard to prove yourself right. Also, people tend to only remember the mistakes that lead to goals, rather than the dozens of occasions when a keeper might drop the ball, but be rescued by a team mate.

Personally, I formed the impression last season that Hart was having less of an impact than previous campaigns. He was still making match-turning saves (away games at Monchengladbach and Watford), but equally more mistakes seemed to be creeping into his game (Norwich H Liverpool A)

Hart’s distribution was too slow, both in thinking and execution. It even led to his self inflicted injury against United.

As for shot-stopping, Swansea had one chance at the ETIHAD last season, resulting in Hart being beaten at the near post. Rashford never looked like missing, and what about that free kick at home to Liverpool when he kicked the ball straight to a clearly startled Coutinho?

Similarly, one of the goals at the swamp originated from Bravo being boxed-in, but passing the ball to Kolarov rather than hoofing the ball downfield. However when the goal is replayed the movie starts with Kolarov on the ball.

Would Hart have passed to Kolarov or played safe? Impossible to know for certain, but if the opposition keep slicing through our defence with such alarming regularity then even Manuel Neuer would be struggling.

The problem with Joe Hart is he is a mid table keeper but has the wages and ego of a top class performer. This is always the conundrum when we try to get rid of the deadwood.

Hopefully there will be a manager around who is as daft as some of our Hart fan boys. Probably end up sweetening any deal to get rid though

How is this thread still going? It seems clear that, as long as Guardiola is our manager, there is very little prospect of Joe playing for us again. And, while it is true that he is a better keeper than Bravo, he wasn't averse to dropping clangers either.

The only way back at City for Hart is if Guardiola goes and that's not likely to happen anytime soon.
