Best threat you've had playing sunday league?

Think it's fairly obvious my lad is a ref (ok stop throwing things) Before moving up the league so to speak, he spent a lot of time with youth and kids teams and he reckoned the kids were fine but the parents were a nightmare.

    Woolworths Fire - Manchester 1979

I remember both of them. My old gran used to like to go to Pauldens and have tea in their cafe - it was her treat very occasionally; my auntie used to take her. When Woolworths was burned down we had a shop just opposite the end of Piccadilly Station Approach - just up from the Fire Station. I...

    good book suggestions

Forgot to add - The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett. It's the first of his Discworld novels. I gave it to a friend who was reading it on the plane to USA - she kept bursting out laughing and the chap next to her thought she was a loony!

    good book suggestions

If you want something mystery/crime try Manchester Blue by Eddie Shah I'd recommend The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but even in paperback it's a huge brick of a book - might put you over the baggage llimit - best crime novel I've read in years.

Problem with BT homehub and laptop, please help !

Had out IT man in this afternoon and, just in passing, he remarked that the net is a bit slower because, if the weather is lousy, then all the schoolkids who are on holiday immediately get on-line. Must admit I do notice a slight difference on normal days between morning which is usually pretty...

    i think im going mad.....

Someone once told me that insanity is catching - you get it from your kids! I once took my daughter (14 at the time) to London, on the train looking out of the window (and without thinking of course) I said 'oh Look at all those baa lambs and moo cows' - everyone in the carriage looked to see...

Probably a daft question but how much RAM have you got in your laptop? Have you done a disc-clean recently to get rid of temporary files?

    Virus help!!! (Trojan Horse?)

Agree with Betty - NOD32 is fantastic. I've been running it for 4 year now and it is worth every penny. Costs about £27 to get initially and about £16 to renew each year. Since I got it I have never had any problems with viruses, spyware etc. By the way - Natwest also offer a website...

    Pensioners/Grandparents/Wrinklies

I'm beginning to wonder just how old you lot are? I'm a gran and have nothing like these - I loathe dusting at the best of times, and even my old mother-in-law (90ish and who loved ornaments) wouldn't have been seen dead with a toilet-roll dolly.

    Jots' Potential Racist Minefield Thread

I never realised how rude the public are until I got a shop! Doesn't matter really whether they are black, white, asian, or outer mongolian! We had a big double sized shop selling artists's stuff and picture framing. Woman came in one day and said 'can I have a loaf of bread' - told her we...

    Ebay

I've been using ebay to buy and sell for several years and, so far, have had only one iffy chap who wanted to buy a car from me - his scam was that he said a third party owed him a lot more money than the price of the car, they would send me the cheque, I could pay it into my bank and send him...

    Pensioners/Grandparents/Wrinklies

Some of us wrinklies may go in for naff ornaments (hate 'em myself - too much dusting) but bear in mind that to-days grandmas and grand-dads were the teenagers who were in at the start of rock'n'roll so anything you are thinking of doing they have probably already done in the past.

    VIRUS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had something similar a couple of years ago, that's when my IT man installed NOD32 for me and I have never had a problem since. BUT these days unless I am 100% certain who an email is from I never click on any links in them. I know it's a bind but if I want to follow through on something I...

Parental advice please - girls peer pressure

This seems to be affecting ever-younger kids. Even my 6 year old grand-daughter mentioned weight the other day. I agree with one or two others I think confidence can be an issue so, like the child who is learning Karate, my grand-daughter has started kick-boxing lessons and it's done wonders...

Suggestion to help kids bored being stuck in this summer!!

Miserable old sod! That's got to be worth a quid at least! If they are small children try http://www.coloring.ws/coloring.html It's a site with some games for them and loads of...
