(Buckle up) Recession for more than a year

Yeah, I was expected to be annoyed by a load of wankers spouting nonsense, but seemed pretty reasonable in the end.

Match Thread | West Ham vs Man City (07/08/22)

With the full backs ticking into midfield to make up for no false 9, can’t help but think foden should be on the left and Alvarez on the right for a bit more natural width. That said, what the fuck do I know. We’re managing this well enough given the lack of pre-season. Ha, get in.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

I was just about to say, whilst BB is right in the sense of those being the most tangible and attributable effects of Brexit, it's the impact in the mid to long term of our economy contracting that's going to be felt sharpest. We're already seeing it, but at the moment pro-Brexit commentators...

Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Starmer strikes me as being bright enough to tie his own shoelaces, whereas am I'm not that confident in Truss, so it shouldn't even be close.

    Keir Starmer

Utterly maddening from Starmer. I’m normally a supporter and have had sympathy in being opposition to a bunch of populists on the back of brexit, but he’s badly misjudged this one.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Yep. Whilst I’m massively against it, I do understand why people voted for it in the sense they were looking for change. It just happens that being in the EU wasn’t actually the reason why life was shit.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Dover has called queues a critical incident now. The hits just keep coming!

Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Most of Badenoch's will go to Truss surely, can't see Mourdant getting that close now. And Truss will probably win with the members. I jokingly said I'd prefer her as she's thick as pigshit and the best way to ensure Labour win the next election, but god help us.

    The Labour Party

That’s less claimed than the average MP!

    ******Cricket Thread******

Absolutely ridiculous how easy this has been made to look. After the first innings, and Stokes dismissal in particular, I wasn't convinced Bazball was the way forward against the better teams, but hard to argue with this performance.

    The Scottish Politics thread

Gut feeling - Brexit and Johnson will be enough to reverse the last referendum result and independence will get a narrow majority.

    The Conservative Party

They had cash for questions which was a big one for their reputation tho. And David Mellor getting his toes sucked.

    The Conservative Party

I agree. It doesn't do anything too dramatic to parliamentary arithmetic, and more importantly defector MPs tend to lose their seat or leave politics not long after. Am sure Starmer would love the symbolism of tories crossing the house, but it's by not being a Tory (or Johnson) that will win him...

    Do you support the RMT?

Prob one for another thread, but the Tories are so obsessed with being in power all they have is painting a nightmare vision of a Labour govt, without actually enacting any policies of their own vision. If indeed they have one.

    Do you support the RMT?

You'd think there's no way this level of stupidity could be an elected representative of the people, but alas...

If this was anyone other than England I’d be confident. As it is, still worried what happens if we lose Root with more than 20 to chase

    Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

I saw him on the school run this morning and he definitely looked lively. It was pissing it down tho, so maybe that's why he had a spring in his step.

    Political relations between UK-EU

I honestly believe for a lot of brexit voters, just being out is enough. The idea of having ‘won’ trumps life actually getting better for us in any way.
