Álvaro Negredo Sánchez

55m buys you a guaranteed return, Negredo does not. However if Cavani scores 30 goals and Negredo scores 20 is 40m worth it for those extra 10 goals? Maybe that 40m could be spent elsewhere on another player or players that would give you the extra 10 goal difference or bring in an upgrade on Lescott, Kolorov or Garcia which in turn may see us concede fewer goals and play in a more exciting manner.

I think people seem to be seeing Tevez with some very blue tinted spectacles tbh. Before he signed for us he had a very average record, he was readily available and top teams weren't exactly falling over themsleve to get him. He failed at international level, his record in Europe is pretty woeful, he is far from the god of football that some people on here seem to remember him as. He carried our team in the league for two years and was brilliant at doing that, but he's not that player anymore.
If we get a Negredo or a Gomez, someone who is just there to finish our chances, then that would help our team far more than Tevez did last year. We don't need players to try and take on the entire team on their own anymore, we need players to fit a system and do their job for the team.
I agree with you on this but we do need to get this striker signing right as if we take time to adapt to this new system the league could be gone by then.

How does it?

Daily Mail journo wrote in today's paper that Pellegrini doesn't believe Cavani would suit the style he wants to play. It is the Mail of course so pinch of salt, but if there is any truth to it, it might explain us going cold on Cavani (besides the price tag).

Only repeating what has been said many times on here, much the same was said about RVP last year and most agreed he would score lots of goals for the rags, they were right.

I understand what you`re saying, but i would always go for the very best even if it meant one signing a season. In the end you get fantastic team, takes time but quality over quantity every time for me .

Said as much yesterday, Higuain and negredo still cheaper than Cavani and both suited to our style of play.

It is ok scoring xyz amount of goals but you need a striker who scores important goals when games are tight(like van pussy). No good being able to get a hat full against Fulham and alike but struggle in the big games.

But you have a squad of individuals which has been many a big spending teams downfall. We need the best players to suit the style Pellegrini wants not a squad of Galacticos

The opposite view to buying the best seems to be Barca's ability to overhaul RM when they bought nothing but Galaticos, it is unsustainable. Lower basic wages with large bonus payable on sucess would probably put off most "A" list players but for those who do arrive they are playing because they want to be here. Just a point of view.
