The part time greek goat herders who put holders Athletico Madrid out?

Serious superiority complex as ever on here.

May not have been vintage but well beat them at home and were through. Job done.

May be we didn't play well because the players were as complacent about the game as many of the supporters seem to have been. A number of people on here are becoming so dismissive of some opposition teams that it makes me cringe, we are becoming arrogant and not in a remotely good way.

id put money on it that all of last years top 4 would of come away from their with a win

Ok, I bet you 100 quid. I just played that hypothetical match out in my mind and Aris held on to their 40 year unbeaten record against Chelsea. Chelsea played as badly as they did agaainst Sunderland at home and Aris comfortably kept them out. You can send me the money by paypal if you like.

I think the draw is OK. Regardless of their home European record over the years, they've done well this season to get to this stage. Man for man, we're clearly better equipped than them, but expecting to roll teams over based on that is unrealistic, as we often see, particularly in cup games. The pitch was very bumpy, which contributed to some (but not all) of our poor passing, but we controlled most of the game, although I'm disappointed we didn't create more chances. Overall, I was happy with the team selected and our approach to the game as we rarely looked in trouble. It was an away tie in the Europa league and, without the bonus of an away goal, we did enough. If we turn them over at home, as we should, everyone will be happy and last night will be forgotten.

I don't think it's arrogant to expect to beat a team like Aris. I'm sure fans of other teams with squads as good as ours would expect the same too.
I mean, if we can't beat them then what happens when we come up against one of the better teams in the competition.

We will find out in the next 3 months if we have progressed, only results will silence the critics but if were all honest our season could go in 2 very different directions at the minute, i dont even want to contemplate one of those options. We are at the stage of the season where winning mentality is as important as anything, we have to find it, and quick. As i see it Rags, Arse and Spuds have that and thats why those three will finish top three. Chelsea have the experience and will hope that will carry them through to fourth. Its upto us now, we have to step it up because if in 5 weeks time we are saying, well we never beat Fulham or it was always going to hard to get something at Chelsea, we will be in trouble. So no excuses lads, its time to deliver(progression), take the only option the club can afford

Fair enough, I certainly think referring to Aris as greek goat herders is incredibly arrogant and would defy anyone to argue with me there. Personally, despite the difference in class of players, I think their European home record does count for something in this debate, nobody has won there in Europe, it suggests they are dogged and know how to get results in exactly last night's circumstances. It's ok people saying such and such would have shat on them etc etc, but nobody has at that ground in Europe so the facts don't bear that opinion out at all. Whilst I don't have a problem with people expecting a better performance or hoping that we would win, the reaction to us drawing there has effectively been quite dismissive of the opposition and smacks of arrogance imo.

Yeah, a 40 year unbeaten home record in Europe sounds great....but it's actually only 25 games (which doesn't sound quite as good as 40 years), and I could count the number of decent teams they've played on one hand. The rest were against teams like Sliema Wanderers, Katowice, Servette, Jagiellonia Bialystok, Zimbu Chisinau.......alot of these teams are even less known than Aris are. I've never even heard of some of them before.

Exactly. Everyone in COMS will be shitting themselves if we only get 1 goal in the home leg

Personally I think we'll go 2 nil up, get the cigars out, start doing ole's, piss about, concede, and shit ourselves
