There were multiple contributing factors to that low output last year, many of which have now been resolved.

I hope and believe he'll get more goals and assists this season.

But he's never been a big goalscorer. Never hit double figures for league goals in a single season.

So either we spent £100m in the belief that we could change him to be a big goalscorer and that would somehow be easier or better than just bringing in a someone with a goalscoring track record who we could almost certainly get for less than £100m.

Or we bought him for another reason, because there's something he does that is rare and special and unteachable, something that Pep needs for how he wants this side to play over the next few years.

We bought him on the basis of what he did at Villa, and goalscoring was a very small part of that.
Time will tell and I hope he proves me wrong but one thing is certain he has to produce and do it now, the time for waiting is over.

And what pray tell would that be?

He has one job left to keep his career here on track and that is to not be our fall guy now Raheem as been moved on.

He is favourite , followed closey by Rihad or Joao.

Okay, but there's a massive difference between Raheem being the fall guy last season and Grealish being the fall guy this season. Raheem had very good goal and assist numbers and the criticism of him was over the top. Grealish doesn't, and for some reason he's the only person who's above Pep's "you only play if you deserve to play" policy.

People act like Raheem left because he didn't want to fight for his minutes, but if we're being fair to him, even when he or Foden deserved the minutes they were often given to Jack, who was doing next to nothing. Why stay and sit on the bench to watch someone nowhere near as good playing instead of you?

Simply not good enough to justify his price tag, that's what you mean like you always do to bring as part of his criticism.

Even if his price tag was £25m those stats aren't good enough to justify it. I find it nearly inconceivable that Palmer, given the exact same minutes as Grealish last season, wouldn't have managed better than six goal contributions.

It's not Jack's fault, he seems like a good person and a hard worker, but one of the key fundamentals of Guardiola's philosophy- you only play if you deserve to play- has gone out of the window because of Jack's price tag.

It is quite strange so far with him playing on the left in our side. We’ve got a bloke on the other side who doesn’t really drive at anyone but can keep the ball all day and weighs in with goals. No doubting Grealish is a fantastic footballer but having 2 on either flank basically doing the same thing leaves us very narrow.

Amazing that his previous two performances in preseason friendlies, where it’s widely acknowledged he played well saw about 6 pages added to this thread, yet a fairly innocuous game on Saturday (along with several others) sees the same half dozen bores from last season pile in to add about 20 pages of repetitive shite.

We get it. You don’t rate him, you think he’s a waste of money and it’s his fault we haven’t got a left back.
Look forward to seeing you all fuck off from the thread when the real action starts next week and he starts the season as he ended the last one, with much improved performances that help the team win games.

I don't think he played well against America. Did well against Bayern.

He might start the season well, until then it's all hypothetical. Last season he got away with "well he might be good in the future". This year there are no more excuses. As things stand, the fact that he's still here and Jesus/Sterling are gone is a big problem. The only way that changes is if he starts to deliver.

He finished last season with much improved performances, you could see he was finally getting to grips with the system and what was expected from him.
So really that’s all we should be going off, not friendlies, wherever he was good or bad.
He certainly doesn’t warrant the same people posting the same thing over the last 25 pages when the real football hasn’t even begun.
If he starts at West Ham and has a shocker, fill your boots. Until then it’s plain to see he will never win some over because they just don’t like him, and tbh, I’d rather just stick those types of bores on ignore. They say nothing new or revealing, they may as well copy and paste their shite and just add it once a week as that’s how it reads.
