He actually doesn’t lose the ball does he
No. He's positively inciting and testing the defenders/defensive midfielders for extended periods of the game. Real had to rotate to foul him. It wastes their time, demoralises them, and leads to losses in discipline and shape. The rest of our lot get a breather and encouragement. He's also aiming to use the general loss of concentration to nick that ball back off them and make them pay. It's a solid fucking tactic, the team must love it - Pep does.

And he is indeed a genius at ball retention to pull it off against these guys. Absolute mayhem watching him slip completely past them. Foden's got that same style, when he gets past, he slides his whole body in front of them in the same split second movement, the dual is thoroughly over before it's begun, they have got nothing. If he gets them booked once, the next time he pulls that off, they are looking at a situation - tackling from behind - which will quite likely lead to a second yellow and red. Hence the opponents have to come from other areas to take him on.

Brilliant. Terrorized Carvajal, who was rightfully booked this time - unlike in the first leg.

Just 1 or 2 seasons ago, I remember Pep said we lacked a player who can carry the ball and drive it into the final third individually (ala Messi, Neymar). Not saying Grealish is on the level of Messi, but I believe Pep found his dribbler. Just incredible when it comes to running with the ball.

Just watching the recording on bt. Jacks face when told the stat that he has created the most ever chances for an Englishman in a champions league campaign - a mixture of surprise, happiness, pride and embarrassment- i just wanted to give him a cuddle, what a thoroughly nice lad. For all the morons from other clubs who boo him - why???

He’s brilliant at everything. If the game needs slowing down then he does it, if we need to speed things up then he does it and he’s got that pass into the box on lock (Gundo for the second last night) - a really useful tool to have.

And he works his socks off!

Might go back through the first 300 pages of this thread for laugh.
People never learn with Pep.

It takes most players a while to adjust to Pep's philosophy. Even Rodri struggled in his first season, but the guy is now one of the first names on the team sheet. And despite his goal tally I don't think we've yet seen the best of Haaland. Jack's first season was a bit hit & miss, but this season he's improved beyond belief.

Yes I noticed that, just so modest and likeable… He reminds me of a 70’s Maverick like Stan Bowles or Alan Hudson and I’d love it if he scored the winner in one of the Finals.

Think he committed one foul and was booked. Must be a bizarre feeling to get kicked from pillar to post and see nothing done, and then pick up a ticket for your first offence, which is a mirror of one the referee has let your opponent go unpunished for.

Pep will get him adding 15 goals to what he already does next season. Then he’ll be in the top 2-3 players in the world. It’s his natural next step.

The Boy has talent to burn.

So good. If he scored a few more goals he’d be our Luis Figo. Doesn’t need a vast amount more though. Jack is like 1 in 7 or 8 games. Figo about 1 in 6 ish. But that’s what he can be for us, Luis Figo.

He has got even better since Cancelo left or was replaced by Ake. Cancelo created confusion and blocked space for Jack.

I don’t think we will be in the market for an overlapping left back anytime soon.

Of course with Pep there is bound to be some sort of new innovation as teams have already started copying the full backs moving into midfield.

Apart from the obvious tribal element, Jack is an 'ordinary' bloke blessed with extraordinary talent living his best life and for every person who can't help but be happy for him, when they see he still has a sense of wonder at how his life has turned out, sadly there will be someone who is envious and bitter.

Modern football is insane and one part of that is the inclination to turn players into demigods. People should celebrate a player who seems to know that the entire circus is mad and has, it would appear, managed to retain his authentic self

I love when he goes on a mazy run through the middle of the pitch, he should do it more, he's so good at it. Very much like Gascoigne at his best, just seems to get away from players with ease without being lightning fast.
