10 | Jack Grealish - 2023/24

I still think he'd be good to use in a central position, but Pep's not going to try it anytime soon.

10 starts all season in the league due to injuries/form - not a great campaign. But four games to go this season, there's time for him to do something and bury all of that. He's not going to be prolific, but performances like his one away at Palace are evidence of his impact in the side even when he doesn't get a tick in the goals and assists column.
 
I am reminded of Rio Ferdinand in reading this thread. His commentary bases itself on individuals. He talks of big-game mentality, taking games by the scruff of the neck , everything going through that player and how they are the one making things happen. Meanwhile, their team is conceding chances and not winning.
Our team is successful. Our team wins trophies. Our team dominates games. This is not despite Jack Grealish. This is not because of one player. We are a team, a squad, and each player brings different qualities. You cannot isolate player performance from team performance, and Jack brings plenty to the team, on the pitch and behind the scenes.

Very well said. Team play isn't just measured on assists. As part of a collective, you can see Jack's contribution.

For all the shit we have to listen to about his price tag, there are some here who hold the same thing over his head.

He didn't cost me a penny, I don't care how much we signed him for.

And as you said, in the clubs PR and in the locker room, he's a huge part of things.

Doesn't mean he has no room for improvement as a player (would like to see his shooting improve personally) but you can see how he contributes to the team play. Dictates tempo and holds possession incredibly well which in turn creates space for players to work around.
 
We have 4 cup finals now , Jack needs to step up here if he's picked. Goals and assists is what's wanted not Free kicks and back passes. The time for that has passed. If that's what he's going to bring to the table then he'll be coming off the bench to close a game out not starting.

We have four cup finals to win. If Jack helps the team to win, that is what matters. If he gives the control that allows others to assist and score, that's fine. If his defensive discipline allows Gvardiol to become the attacking outlet that assists and scores, that will do me. Wins are everything. What the team does is everything. What individuals do is nothing.

That's fair enough. It's about getting over the line by hook or by crook now.

Get what you’re alluding to but he also has a point. The really elite players take games by the scruff of the neck.
