I still say we try him out in midfield..

Outside of Rodri, I think he's the best player we have at shielding the ball and not losing it. He offers a lot of control.

He also carries the ball well when he has more space, which he doesn't get out wide

Conventional wisdom says he should be played in the middle but it's obviously Pep doesn't fancy him in the middle. Pep obviously knows much more than us, but I'd really love to hear from him about why he never tries it.

His best attributes are wasted hugging the touchline. He can definitely do a job in the middle with the right players around him.

The pressure is so much less. Can’t play wide forward in this side and not score for a year. However, if he can play in the middle of the park and dictate games, the lack of G/A will soon be forgotten.

Agreed, ironically his numbers will probably increase when not expected to contribute.

Talking about right players around him I don't think he needs too much quality around him when he is in the middle. What he desperately needs is the trust of teammates to feed him the ball constantly and he will feed the others. It has been enough times he played with shit players around him in England and Villa and he always could do what he could do ...keep the ball and pass the ball...

He really needs trust.

Would keep him and Doku both on the left. Grealish as a left side 8 and Doku on the wing. I think this could become something special.

When we bought him the rumour was that the plan was to play him in the middle alongside Kev.

Can't believe we had to wait this long to see it, even though both are still coming back to form and fitness the vision is there.
