What is relevant is that a middle aged man had sex with a child. And I hope it is referred to the court of appeal because eight months suspended is a joke in my opinion.

The 14 year old with the teacher was acceptable. Now a 13 year old who consented is fine.

Just out of interest, what age would some of you people consider to be the age where you say; you know what, I don't care if she did consent, this **** took advantage of a child and deserves a bit of a sentence that reflects that?

I'm not sure it can mate. I would imagine it would always have to boil down to willing consent. Look at it like this a 14 year old Italian girl and her 50 year old boyfriend are in London and they have sex, this is legal in italy but not in UK, would you expect the man to be convicted of statutory rape? It's such a grey area. We are almost left in the situation that it is a self-enforced law where we hope a persons moral compass stops them entering into inappropriate relationships but that's is hardly ideal.

Everyone knows that having sex with someone under 16 is illegal. Of course a 16 year old having sex with a 15 year old is a world away from them been 41 and 13. You'd like to think that would be reflected in the sentencing in the individual cases though.

So you believe that everybody knows this? Even foreign nationals where they are in a legal relationship? that, I believe, is a grey area. You can't also treat the 16 and 15 year old any differently than a 50 and 15 year old in the eyes of the law. Again we morally differentiate between the two but when you start adding morals to law you enter a grey area as it becomes subjective.

Of course the law differentiates. A 16 year old would never be even charged for having consensual sex with a 15 year old.

By your reasoning the whole legal system is a grey area. Which I suppose it is if you look at it like that. It is always a decision the CPS will make whether it is in the public interest to bring a prosecution. With all offences not just ones related to sex.

The article stated she looked and acted older than she was. I don't know if she was sexually active or not but even if she was it doesn't give any 41 year old man the right to have sex with her. What is wrong with you ? How is it right at all. She could have been exploited all her life and thought that was the way of the world. The law says its not ok to prey on the young and vunerable but if you want to stick up for a grubby twat that had a hoard of child and animal sex abuse images on his PC then you go ahead

I can see both sides to this.
Clearly she was sexually conversant, but that still doesn't exonerate a 41 year old bloke who really should know better.
The only thing that really pisses me off is that there was a serious shortage of 13 year old sexual predator girls when I was at school.
Although being at an all-boys grammar probably didn't help matters.

Maybe I will be glad when all forms of porn are removed from the net and society and I see no more pairs of bare breasts in my newspaper because I think we may have gone more than beyond the lowest level when we start queuing up to defend child molesters.

I see women sexualised all the time, it's normal now and we are seen as objects for men to ogle and we are never good enough for you if we haven't had our breasts enlarged to an abnormally overstuffed size. Every stretchmark, follicle of hair or blemish removed and even then we aren't good enough for you. We're too sexy, not sexy enough, too thin too fat. Is it any fooking wonder our little girls are so confused ? Too bent out trying to please men and a society where all you have to do is be perfect.

Men want sexy but then it's your fault for trying to be to too sexy and you asked for it. So I'd like all this stopped now so we can get back to a decent moral society when we know what wrong is. Sorry, but it's us warping women? I find it hard to blame it all on men when every day they're being shown how women should look or act or dress by advertisements on TV, Billboards, Posters, Bus stops ad inifitum. That is doing FAR more damage than porn ever will.
