The drop off from Laporte to Ake is arguably too great for us, and the latter’s ability to play left back is no justification for preferring him. Peculiar position we’ve found ourselves in, but if Laporte is hankering for a return to Spain, then we’ll do all we can to facilitate that.

Not if the reason for the hankering is lack of game time.
 
Class end of. Best passer of our 3 CBS and looks comfortable playing with either. So much better than Ake it’s untrue.
 
Really hope he stays. We're a Dias/Stones injury or dip and form away from being shaky at the back, to say the least. And as much as I love Stones he's hardly been a picture of consistency or health. I also think Dias played far too much last year and suffered for it at the end of the season.

If Laporte can get back to his pre-injury form, it'd be tough to keep him out of the side. He's the best passer of our CBs and that's so important in this team.
