He's reminding me of Otamendi lately. 95% of the time you've got a genuine top class defender who does so many of the right things with and without the ball, but there's always that error in him in effectively every game.

I think he deserves a bit of patience at least. We've seen players come back from much, much worse spells than this for City.

Garbage again. Didn't look like he fancied one bit against Antonio. Can't be far off a suspension for yellows. The sooner Stones is back in the better.

Typical Laporte performance when he's faced with pacey and physical opponents - he often looks out of his depth and comes off second best.

Time on the ball, and playing on the front foot, and he looks great.

Unless absolutely necessary.....Stones should not be dropped for this lad.

It’s always been the case with him, it’s just for the first 18 months of his time here few teams had the capacity/desire to attack us, so the mirage of him being an elite centreback occurred. He’s a better footballer than he is defender.

Stones last season earned the right to be the default first choice centreback partner for Dias - psychologically he doesn’t seem to react well the pressure of being flawless to keep his place, and ironically that’s when errors start creeping back into his game.

Wonder if pep is preserving stones a bit for end season run-in. Otherwise I don’t get it. Laporte is very good I believe, but almost always has a mistake from misplaying someone (often in too tight from which he gets beat), and then overreacts/responds poorly in an attempt to make right.

Spot on. Stones always had a couple errors per game till last season. Laporte could still come back to his best.

Defensively he has become a liability, I would imagine he will be sold in the summer, time to say thank you and goodbye.

It's funny that a year ago he was saying he might want to leave if he didn't play enough.

Now I'm not sure anyone who could afford him would take him, and the more he starts the less likely anyone is to come in for him.

He needs to overhaul his game, because at the moment he's playing like Otamendi on a bad day - aware he's struggling for pace and agility, jumping out to foul people before they can turn him.

I believe he's got the skills to be a good defender but either needs to regain his pace and agility, or play much more conservatively.

Vinny lost a lot of speed through his calf injuries and deliberately lost a lot of weight to try and make up for it, and adapted his game to be less aggressive.

Not sure his form is down to injuries, it's his attitude to me.

It's all well and good having a ball playing defender but at the end of the day if they can't do their job (defend) they are useless, however good on the ball.

Give me the likes of Dias or Walker any day, proper footballers but also proper defenders who will put their bodies on the line for a victory. And add Stones to that list, once a lack of desire was a weakness in his game, the last 12 months he has transformed himself and become a leader and a proper defender.

Laporte has become a serious weak link, flat footed, lack of aggression and weak willed, a shadow of the player that was at the club early doors.

Sloppy first half, great second half (considering he was on a booking against Antonio). Would not be in the least bit shocked if he was moved on in the summer and replaced (Torres/De Ligt/Bastoni).

Easily the CB most likely to drop a 5/10

Excellent player, Pep has played him so much for a reason. We are lucky to have options like him when Stones is injured or out of form. And we are lucky to have Stones when Laporte is injured or out of form. Few clubs have such good options at CB. I'm sure Laporte will perform when the chips are down, may score a crucial goal or two, like the winner in the league cup final last season.
