I can see us losing Julian-Alvarez to Real Madrid or Barcelona because of Haaland if we are not careful,
like many on here, pep has to find a starting place for him, he is a special talent and will not want to be just sitting on the bench waiting for Haaland to fill his boots each week,

in the words of a Great England Manager, we're playing 4.4, fucking, 2

Devil's advocate here;

1. Who would you drop for him? I'm assuming Jack or Riyad.
2. Would Pep, as he might see it, risk upsetting the "balance" of the team?

Drop a fullback, the pseudo role we have them doing is somewhat mixed to me as the wingers are stretching the pitch. Go 352 instead of 451 as a result.

Ask the midfielders to play deeper to compensate, Rodri, Phillips, Bernie, Gundogan and KdB can all play deeper.

Also we should probably slowly phase out Mahrez for Palmer. But that has nothing to do with getting Alvarez in the team.

Then Alvarez could very well find himself in the same situation if Madrid trigger Haaland's release clause.

1. Could we look at something like:

.................Haaland.......Alvarez..............

Foden..............De.Bruyne..........Silva

...........................Rodri..........................

2. The balance hasn't quite looked right all season in any case so worth giving it a try to fit Alvarez in

That line up would smash everyone!

Personally I think we’d be more likely to play with 3 centre backs, maybe with one being Walker, the wing backs, the usual 3 in midfield and Haaland and Alvarez up top.

The problem here is who would play left wing back, and more specifically if Foden could play there. But Alvarez certainly looked too good tonight to be sat on the bench most games.

Amazing talent now established on the world stage yet is still young and learning.

Shifting Grealish into central midfield, alongside Rodri and Bernardo, and allowing Phil to occupy number 10, behind Alvarez and Haaland would be the way I would go, in the longer term. Without the ball, the front three would split, with Alvarez and Phil occupying right and left, respectively. This pre-supposes Gundo going and KDB coming to the end of his career.

By the time KDB career comes to an end the landscape will look completely different again.

The right side of the front three is the position which currently not fully nailed down, that is the position available to him.

Foden Haaland Alvarez

Bernardo Rodri KDB

Cancelo Stones Dias Walker

I hope so, but I don't feel his performances have been at his normal level for quite some time.
