19 | Julian Alvarez - 2023/24

Alvarez and Haaland in same team doesn’t work. Everyone Is always complaining about how many games we have to play, surely Pep can keep them both happy with a bit of rotation.
They are also totally different types of player and our style of play changes accordingly , which surely has to be a benefit.

Im guessing reports that he complained about his playing time last season are true, I cant see how he can put in lacklustre performances and still be picked if he didnt complain, so technically it is his fault.
 
He's not done terribly in this position but he hasn't done brilliantly either. Probably through tiredness too.

I think if we had got Paqueta (not our fault btw) then he would be playing in that position?

Either way it's the correct set up by Pep but Alvarez is the wrong player for it.

Yes, his shooting is (was) one reason why i could see pep playing him central. He has a great shot and is normally accurate. He hits the target more often than not.
BUT, as you mention, his shooting has gone to shit. A clear indicator his game is suffering right now.
 
He's a good player Alvarez, and for 15m you really can't complain. But at this moment in time he's hindering the team in that attacking midfield position , well that's where I think he's trying to play anyway. Kovacic would bring more stability to the midfield and would contribute more. Bench for the foreseeable future for me

It’s been a long Mancunian Autumn and Winter of playing football for the lad. He isn’t used to it, as the Argentinian football season is played from May to December. That and other factors have eventually effected his game, which has led to the drop in form. He’ll be better from the experience next season.

Has many, many attributes but his first touch lets him down against the low block employed by most teams against City. In my opinion and it’s accepted that means nothing, he is better playing as striker but in Pep’s current 11 that is likely to be playing second fiddle to Haaland and he is clearly too good for that.

There was something along those lines, but it was from 90min.com, saying “sources have confirmed to us” etc, so a ‘report’ in the loosest sense of the word, but it did exist. Then a few other places kind of piggybacked on it saying “according to 90min.com”. The names attributed to it on 90min were Jack Gallagher and Graeme Bailey, two nobodies really. So not really fair to say he’s talking out his arse because these reports did happen, it’s just that there’s no reliability to them.

The Argentinian season is a lot longer than may-dec. Think you are looking at just the Liga Torneo? It runs from January to December this season. See below link and change to 24/25 season

If you remember we signed Alverez in January and left him on loan until the summer to play the first part of the Argentinian season his 22/23 season lasted from Feb 22 until may 2023 and he played 89 games
