Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

Fucking hell, you'd think he'd just committed mass murder judging by some of the comments in this thread.

I bet de Jong is a super guy off the field. But City have some really, really good players right now and should be able to play proper football against teams like Newcastle.

Put that in your crackpipes and smoke it.
What you talking about you muppet? Just because you find some dicks on tv who say one thing (whatever it was) it doesn't make their opinion any more valid than mine. Now fuck off and take your tears to someone who cares.

If that´s criminal why isn´t Tom Hundredstone up in court facing a charge of ABH after the full blooded , totally intentional elbow straight in the face of a Twente player - that was assault but because he plays for Spivs and Arry the media conveniently ignore it

Aside from being sat in the South Stand yesterday, where it looked a good, hard tackle - have just seen it for the first time.

I was in 110 so immediately thought it was a good challenge. But the weird thing was that the Newcastle players didn't even look phased by it. Just seemed to walk away and wait for play to restart.

Thought you said yesterday evening that you weren't posting in this thread again? Do us all a favour and run along to sad cafe, there's a good little boy.

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

It's a simple situation. The tackle was good, hard but fair. Unfortunately Ben Arfa's leg got caught under De Jong and broke as Nige's momentum took him through. The tackle was in no way malicious or reckless, just unfortunate. Sometimes accidents happen and when you are playing football at fast pace sometimes breakages occur. It's not nice and no-one likes to see them but they happen. De Jong won the ball and the Ref saw nothing wrong in the tackle.

I've seen all the replays and my opinion hasn't changed, neither did the panel's opinions on the ESPN live coverage. Any reactions after the fact are due to knowing the outcome of the accident and seeing the footage over and over, people are losing sight of the actual incident. I saw the thing live and it looked like a solid clean tackle that sadly resulted in a bad injury for a promising player and it still does.

-- Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:10 pm --

On another note, Williamson's tackle on Tevez (which was admittedly outside the box) took man first and then (possibly, although I can't be sure) he may have just touched the ball. Red card surely because if Tevez's leg had been caught under the sliding challenge he might have snapped his leg. Just so happens that fortunately that didn't happen. Is there a difference?

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

Having watched the tackle a few times, I really can't see anything wrong with it at all. Had Ben Arfas leg not got bust, no-one would be commenting further. It was indistinguishable from 20+ similar tackles that happen every week.

All this crap about ndj's trailing leg is complete nonsense. You either go in with a 2 footed challenge, or you have a trailing leg. Unless we have any 1 legged players, that's the way it is.

i have watched the tackle countless times now and still even with total honesty can not see any malicious intent what so ever.

his trailing leg that did the damage to arfa was tooked in when he won the tackle it was only the momentum that caused the break so were the fook anybody can say he did this on purpose or with any intent needs there bloody head testing.

Serious foul play

A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality
against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.

A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as
serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play unless
there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send
off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play.

It was a red card, but it's time to let it go. Lock the thread or whatever....
